Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes wraps up a three-match homestand on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves welcome nationally-ranked Indiana Tech to Wildcat Stadium. On Saturday, Lourdes travels to Aquinas to begins its final stretch in which the Gray Wolves will play four of their final five matches away from home.
Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over as the second head coach in program's history prior to the 2019 season. Johnson sports a 102-118-13 (.466) record overall in his 12th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 27-34-4 (.446) mark in his second year at Lourdes.
Series Notes: Indiana Tech holds a 4-1-2 advantage against Lourdes in a series that began Oct. 17, 2015. The Warriors won last season's meeting 4-1 in Fort Wayne, Ind. The series is tied 1-1-2 at Wildcat Stadium with the last two contests resulting in draws. Aquinas is 3-2-2 all-time against the Gray Wolves dating back to Oct. 21, 2015. Last year's match resulted in a scoreless draw at Wildcat Stadium. The Saints hold a 3-0-1 all-time edge in matches played in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Madonna and Lourdes battled for 90 minutes on Wednesday (Oct. 5) but neither team could find the back of the net in a scoreless draw at Wildcat Stadium.
Alex Brock made four saves to earn the shutout for the Gray Wolves. On Saturday,
Anthony Samuel tied the match in the 24th minute and
Andris Klempert put Lourdes in front in the 58th minute but Rochester notched the equalizer with 22:17 to play as the Gray Wolves and Warriors played to a 2-2 tie. Brock had three stops between the posts.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors have won six straight matches after defeating Cornerstone 2-1 on Saturday. Lucca Motta leads Indiana Tech with five goals and 11 total points while Luke Jones has added three tallies. Brendan Sidaway is the team leader with three assists on the season. In goal, Jaume Salvado has played every minute, sporting a .073 goals against average and an .860 save percentage.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints are coming off a scoreless draw with ninth-ranked Northwestern Ohio on Saturday and travel to Cornerstone on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes. Mason Sills has scored seven times and has 16 points this year for Aquinas while Theo Maye has a team-leading 21 points on six goals and a team-high nine assists. Between the posts, Antonio Strassioto has played every minute, recording a 1.33 goals against average and a .719 save percentage.
Fit to Be Tied: In head coach
Matt Johnson's first three seasons at Lourdes, the Gray Wolves played to a draw just twice. However, this season, Lourdes has had three matches end in a tie, including each of the last two contests.
Brock Earns Second Clean Sheet: Alex Brock earned his second shutout of the season in the scoreless draw against Madonna. He now ranks fourth all-time for career clean sheets at Lourdes.
Klempert Returns to Score Sheet: Andris Klempert has missed numerous matches the past two seasons due to injury, but returned to the lineup on Saturday against Rochester (Mich.) to score his first goal of the season. For the senior, the tally was the first for him since 2019 when he scored a pair of goals as a rookie.
Samuel Takes Team Lead: Anthony Samuel netted his team-leading fourth goal of the season against Rochester (Mich.), giving the Gray Wolves a 2-1 lead. He now has eight goals for his career, tying him for seventh on the school's career list.
Kreutzberg Nearing Single Season Mark: Jonas Kreutzberg has delivered the match-winning goal in all three victories for the Gray Wolves in 2022, one shy of the school's single season mark in that category. The three match-winners account for all three of his career tallies.
On the All-Time Lists: Along with
Anthony Samuel moving into a tie for seventh all-time at Lourdes with eight career goals,
Hussein Sbeiti is also in the deadlock.
Darius Passley-Bennett and
Leon Eisert are tied for 10th all-time with seven career goals.
Andris Klempert ranks sixth on the career assists list with seven, needing one more to match
Savio Adams (2018, 2020-21) for fifth in school history.

Gray Wolves Tabbed Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was selected to finish in fifth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. The Gray Wolves were picked just behind fifth place Madonna. Indiana Tech was the unanimous selection to win the league crown.
