Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: The penultimate week of the men's soccer season has arrived, and with it come a pair of key matches for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves look for a berth in the upcoming WHAC tournament. Lourdes heads to Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday before hosting Siena Heights on Saturday in the home finale.
Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over as the second head coach in program's history prior to the 2019 season. Johnson sports a 102-119-14 (.464) record overall in his 12th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 27-35-5 (.440) mark in his second year at Lourdes.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Concordia (Mich.) have split eight previous meetings 4-4 dating back to Oct. 14, 2015. The Gray Wolves have won the last three contests between the two schools after a 5-0 triumph at Wildcat Stadium last season. The series is tied 2-2 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Lourdes holds a 5-2 all-time edge against Siena Heights in a series that began on Oct. 24, 2015. The Gray Wolves have four straight wins against Siena Heights, including a forfeit during the stretch, after downing the Saints 4-2 in Adrian, Mich. last year. Lourdes holds a 3-1 series edge in matches played at Wildcat Stadium.
Wrapping Up Last Week: On Wednesday (Oct. 12), 18th-ranked Indiana Tech took a lead early in the second half before Lourdes battled back for a 1-1 draw against the Warriors.
Leon Eisert converted a penalty kick for the Gray Wolves' goal while
Alex Brock made five saves in net. On Saturday, Aquinas scored twice in less than three minutes early in the second half on the way to a 3-2 win over the Gray Wolves.
Anthony Samuel and Eisert scored the goals for Lourdes while Brock made four stops.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals have dropped eight straight matches after suffering a 3-0 setback to Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday. Bryce Ferrin leads Concordia with four goals and eight total points on the season. In goal, Kyri Wixom has played a majority of the minutes for the Cardinals, sporting a 3.78 goals against average and a .634 save percentage.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints enter the week following a 2-0 loss to Indiana Tech on Saturday. Siena Heights hosts Aquinas on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes. Timm Castro and Lewis Crombie share the scoring lead for the Saints with two goals and five total points each. Carlos Musoles and Wilhem Weissheimer each share the team lead with two assists. Ricardo Moreno sports a 1.00 goals against average and has an .806 save percentage in goal.

A Result Against a Ranked Foe: Lourdes earned its third result all-time against a NAIA top-25 program last Wednesday with the 1-1 draw against #18 Indiana Tech. The Gray Wolves previously had a 1-1 draw with #3 Davenport in 2016 and a 1-1 tie with #12 Indiana Tech during the 2020 season that was played in the spring of 2021. Lourdes is 0-8-3 all-time against top-25 foes.
Fighting for Postseason: Lourdes enters the final four matches of the season in ninth place in the WHAC standings, with the top-eight qualifying for the conference tournament. The Gray Wolves are just one point out of the three-way tie for sixth place in the league ledger though.
Fit to Be Tied: In head coach
Matt Johnson's first three seasons at Lourdes, the Gray Wolves played to a draw just twice. However, this season, Lourdes has had four matches end in a tie, including three of its last four contests.
Eisert Scores Twice: Leon Eisert scored his first two goals of the season against Indiana Tech and Aquinas. He now has nine for his career, tied with teammate
Anthony Samuel and Brendan Long (2018-2020) for sixth in program history. Eisert also has 28 career points, fifth most in program history.
Samuel Increases Scoring Lead: Anthony Samuel netted his team-leading fifth goal of the season against Aquinas, giving him nine for his career. Samuel has 10 total points this year and 20 during his time at Lourdes.
Brock Strong in Goal: Alex Brock enters the week sporting a 1.58 goals against average on the season and is on pace to set the school's single season mark with a strong finish. The sophomore needs just 120 more minutes to qualify for the single season record which is 1.59 set by
Igor Silva in 2021.
Gray Wolves Tabbed Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was selected to finish in fifth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. The Gray Wolves were picked just behind fifth place Madonna. Indiana Tech was the unanimous selection to win the league crown.
