Series Notes: Lourdes and Tennessee Southern are meeting on the diamond for the first time ever this weekend.

Wrapping Up the Fall: Lourdes won all four games from Bethel (Ind.) as part of a home-and-home series.  The Gray Wolves were 6-2 and 15-8 victors in Mishawaka, Ind. on Sept. 25 before downing the Pilots 6-4 and 10-9 in eight innings at Mercy Field on Oct. 2.

Scouting Tennessee Southern: The Firehawks are still looking for their first victory of the season after falling 13-6 at 21st-ranked Reinhardt on Wednesday (Feb. 16) afternoon.  Michael Wurtz leads Tennessee Southern, which was previously known as Martin Methodist prior to this season, batting .375 with a home run and two RBI.  Hayden Wright is hitting .333 while Lance Pope leads the Firehawks with two homers and three RBI.  The hitters are batting .226 on the season while the pitching staff sports a 12.25 earned run average with opponents hitting .363 against them.

Gray Wolves Tabbed Ninth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was picked to finish ninth in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in the 2022 preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  The Gray Wolves were slotted just behind Aquinas and just ahead of Cleary.  Northwestern Ohio was tabbed as the preseason favorite.

Lourdes in Season Openers: The Gray Wolves improved to 5-6 all-time in season openers after defeating Bethel (Ind.) in this year's season opener, 6-2.  Lourdes has now won four its last five season openers dating back to 2018, with the 2021 opening loss to Truett McConnell as the lone setback in the stretch.

Quite a Debut: Steve Haugh made the most of his first appearances in a Gray Wolf uniform.  The transfer from Owens hit two home runs and drove in five runs while hitting .357 in the four-games against Bethel (Ind.).  He added a pair of doubles for a .929 slugging percentage while posting a .444 on base percentage.

Swinging a Hot Bat: A quartet of returnees had big springs at the plate for the Gray Wolves over the first four games.  Matt McEachern batted .500 with four RBI and four runs scored while Gabe Scott also hit .500 with a home run and three runs batted in.  Joey Oehlers had six hits and a .462 average with a long ball while Brad Ammons hit .375 with a homer and six RBI.

Have a Day Nick: Nick DiGennaro had quite the game in the finale of the spring.  He hit a grand slam in the first inning and added a two-run single in the ninth to tie the game at nine.  He had six RBI on the day, and enters the spring with a team-leading seven.

Solid in Relief: Both Jake Boyd and Max Lojko made two appearances during the fall slate, each earning a victory in relief.  Boyd tossed 4.1 scoreless innings, striking out three while yielding just one hit.  Lojko was just as strong in three scoreless frames, fanning one.

Blowing it By Them: Wyatt Smith struck out 10 opposing hitters in a team-leading 6.2 innings of work over two starts in the fall.  He earned one victory and enters the spring with a 5.40 earned run average.

Extra Bases: Lourdes registered 18 extra base hits over the four games against Bethel (Ind.) to start the season.  Steve Haugh had four with two doubles and two home runs.  The Gray Wolves tallied 10 doubles, six home runs, and triples by Joey Oehlers and Nick DiGennaro.

Streaking: Joey Oehlers has an eight-game hitting streak heading into this weekend dating back to the end of the 2021 campaign.  Brad Ammons has hit safely in his last seven games dating back to last season.

Swiping Bases: Lourdes was a perfect 6-for-6 on the base paths to open up the season.  Joey Oehlers and Josh Hare each stole a pair of bases.

This and That: Lourdes improved to 16-14 all-time in extra inning games after the eight-inning victory over Bethel (Ind.) ... the Gray Wolves will play their next 14 games away from home ... Lourdes is 43-140-1 all-time in true road games ... the Gray Wolves are in their 11th season of intercollegiate baseball.
