Upcoming in Gray Wolves Baseball: Lourdes wraps up its 16-game road trip this week before opening a 10-game homestand.  The Gray Wolves head to Shawnee State for a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon before opening Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Aquinas.  Lourdes returns to Mercy Field for the first time this spring on Sunday with a twinbill against Roosevelt.

Head Coach Josh Bradford: In his third season in the Lourdes dugout, Josh Bradford has a 32-39 (.451) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach.  He is the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Probable Starters: Anderson Strunk (LHP, 0-1, 12.00) and Joey Oehlers (LHP, 1-0, 9.00) are the tentative starters for Wednesday's midweek doubleheader at Shawnee State.  On Saturday in the WHAC opener at Aquinas, Caleb Loboschefski (RHP, 2-1, 4.70) and Jake Boyd (LHP, 3-1, 1.65) are slated to toe the rubber.  In Sunday's twinbill versus Roosevelt, Jagger Geck (LHP, 1-0, 9.00) and Bryn Biemiller (RHP, 0-1, 4.50) are the probable starters.

Series Notes: Lourdes and Shawnee State are meeting on the diamond for the first time ever on Wednesday.  Aquinas holds a 19-9 series edge against the Gray Wolves dating back to April 21, 2012.  The two schools split four meetings during the 2021 season, going 1-1 at each park.  This will be the second time the teams meet on the campus of Davenport University, with Lourdes taking 2-of-3 from the Saints there in 2014.  The Gray Wolves and Roosevelt will be meeting for the first time ever on Sunday.

Wrapping Up Last Week: It took nine innings for Lourdes to score an 8-6 victory at Union (Ky.) last Tuesday (March 8).  Jagger Geck threw six innings of shutout baseball and Caleb Dugan had three hits.  On Thursday, the Gray Wolves fell 10-3 in game one at Blue Mountain before rebounding for a 4-2 victory.  Josh Hare had two hits in the opener while Carson Barker hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh of game two to give Lourdes the win.  On Friday, the Gray Wolves swept a doubleheader at Blue Mountain 7-1 and 5-2.  Caleb Loboschefski allowed one run in five innings in the opener while Jake Boyd tossed five shutout innings, allowing just three hits, in game two.

Scouting Shawnee State: The Bears have dropped five of their last six after splitting a doubleheader with Lindsey Wilson on Friday (March 11).  Noah Sniadach is hitting .441 while Howard Rodriguez has 23 runs batted in.  Javier Santiago has five home runs.  The Shawnee State pitching staff sports a 8.07 earned run average with opponents batting .336 against the Bears.

Scouting Aquinas: The Saints enter the week having lost seven of their last eight after splitting at South Carolina-Beaufort on Friday (March 11).  Aquinas plays at Indiana-Kokomo on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes.  Dane Smitz leads the team batting .479 while Nathan Hughes has 19 RBI and two home runs.  The pitching staff has posted a 8.70 earned run average while opponents are hitting .344 against them.

Scouting Roosevelt: The Lakers enter the week having won three straight after sweeping Michigan-Dearborn on Sunday (March 13).  Roosevelt is at Judson on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes.  Nick McAlister leads the team hitting .361 while Trevor Heinlein has 11 runs batted in.  The pitching staff has registered a 6.52 ERA with opponents batting .287 against the Lakers.

Lourdes in WHAC Openers: Lourdes is 1-8 all-time in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference openers.  The Gray Wolves lone victory came against Michigan-Dearborn in the fall of 2017 to open the 2018 campaign.  Last year Lourdes dropped its first conference game 6-0 at home against Aquinas.

Streaking: Brad Ammons enters the week having hit safely in each of his last three games.  Gabe Scott owns the team's longest hitting streak of the year, six, which ended on the spring trip. Bryce Gargus and Harrison Jackson enter the week having each reached base safely in four straight games.

Extra Baseball: Lourdes is already 2-1 in extra inning games this season, defeating Bethel (Ind.) and Union (Ky.) while falling at Tennessee Southern.  The Gray Wolves are 17-15 all-time in extra inning games.

Leading the Offense: Gabe Scott enters the week batting a team-leading .333 with eight runs batted in on the year.  He has also walked seven time for a .455 on base percentage.

Gray Wolves Tabbed Ninth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was picked to finish ninth in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in the 2022 preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  The Gray Wolves were slotted just behind Aquinas and just ahead of Cleary.  Northwestern Ohio was tabbed as the preseason favorite.

This and That: Steve Haugh leads the team with two home runs and is tied with Brad Ammons for the lead with 10 RBI ... Harrison Jackson has five stolen bases ... Joey Oehlers has three triples ... Wyatt Smith has struck out 20 hitters in 16.2 innings of work.
