Upcoming in Gray Wolves Baseball: Lourdes returns to Mercy Field for the first time this spring on Thursday afternoon as the Gray Wolves open an eight-game homestand with a doubleheader against Grace Christian. The Gray Wolves remain at home this weekend with Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheaders against Cleary on Saturday and Rochester (Mich.) on Sunday.
Head Coach Josh Bradford: In his third season in the Lourdes dugout,
Josh Bradford has a 39-40 (.494) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach. Â He is the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Probable Starters: Avery Harper (RHP, 0-0, 12.00) and
Spencer Rader (RHP, 1st appearance) are slated to take the mound on Thursday in the doubleheader against Grace Christian. Â
Caleb Loboschefski (RHP, 2-1, 5.49) and
Joey Oehlers (LHP, 2-0, 5.40) are tentatively slated to be handed the baseball on Saturday for the twinbill against Cleary. Â
Wyatt Smith (RHP, 1-1, 3.78) and
Bryn Biemiller (RHP, 0-1, 6.39) are the probable starters for Sunday against Rochester (Mich.).
Series Notes: Lourdes and Grace Christian are meeting on the diamond for the first time ever on Thursday. Â Cleary holds a 9-7 series edge against the Gray Wolves dating back to March 14, 2015. Â The two schools split two games during the 2021 season at Mercy Field with the Cougars winning 15-10 and the Gray Wolves winning 5-1. Â The series is tied 5-5 at Mercy Field. Â The Gray Wolves hold a 14-8 all-time edge over Rochester (Mich.) in a series that began March 18, 2012. Â The two schools split game in Rochester Hills, Mich. last season with Lourdes winning the opener 14-3 before the Warriors took game two 12-10. Â The Gray Wolves hold a 7-6 advantage in games played at Mercy Field.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes swept a non-conference twinbill on the road at Shawnee State last Wednesday (March 16) by the scores of 7-5 and 9-2. Â
Josh Hare had three hits and two RBI in the opener while
Anderson Strunk earned the victory on the mound. Â In game two,
Steve Haugh homered and drove in three runs while
Joey Oehlers struck out seven in six innings of work to earn the victory. Â The Gray Wolves took game one of a doubleheader at Aquinas on Sunday 5-4 with
Austin Ford earning the win with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. Â The Saints won game two 11-3.
Scouting Grace Christian: The Tigers are still looking for their first victory in program history after falling 15-7 at Calvin on Monday. Â Cooper Lake leads Grace Christian batting .410 with seven runs batted in while Dylan Thomas is hitting .303. Â The Tigers pitching staff sports an 18.61 earned run average, with opponents batting .385 against them.
Scouting Cleary: The Cougars enter the weekend after dropping both ends of a doubleheader at home against Concordia (Mich.) on Sunday 11-2 and 9-8. Â Ryan Kadoguchi is hitting a team-high .373 with 15 runs batted in while Derek Zavala has four home runs, 17 RBI and a .365 batting average. Â The pitching staff has posted a 6.83 ERA with opponents batting .275 against them this season.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The enter the week having dropped six straight after falling 34-8 at Spring Arbor on Tuesday. Â Rochester plays a doubleheader at Siena Heights on Saturday before heading to Lourdes. Â Connor Rominie paces the Warriors with a .391 average with three home runs and 10 runs batted in. Â The pitching staff carries a 10.32 earned run average with opponents batting .395 against them.

Record-Setting Win Streak: Lourdes set a school record with its sixth consecutive victory in game one of Sunday's doubleheader at Aquinas. Â The Gray Wolves had previously set a school mark of five straight wins from March 3-12, 2021.
Streaking: Steve Haugh has reached base safely in each of the last seven games for the Gray Wolves. Â He had a 12-game on base streak earlier this season, having played just one game this year in which he has not been on the base paths successfully. Â
Josh Hare also has a six game on base streak entering the week after an 11-game streak earlier in the season. Â The longest active hitting streaks are three entering the week:
Brad Ammons and
Joey Oehlers.
Extra Bases: Nine of
Steve Haugh's team-leading 18 hits have gone for extra bases this season, as he has posted a .516 slugging percentage. Â Haugh has a team-high six doubles and shares the team lead in home runs with
Brad Ammons. Â Both have three round-trippers on the year.
Solid on the Mound: Jake Boyd leads the pitching staff with a 3.72 earned run average in 19.1 innings of work this year. Â He has limited opposing hitters to just a .229 average and has a team-high three victories.
Gray Wolves Tabbed Ninth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was picked to finish ninth in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in the 2022 preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Â The Gray Wolves were slotted just behind Aquinas and just ahead of Cleary. Â Northwestern Ohio was tabbed as the preseason favorite.
This and That: Lourdes has drawn 86 walks over the course of the first 20 games this year while also being hit by 22 pitches ... the Gray Wolves have committed just 20 errors, fielding at a .966 clip ...
Harrison Jackson has six stolen bases in seven attempts.
