League of Legends Falls in WHAC Semifinals

The Lourdes esports League of Legends team advanced to the semifinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament on Sunday inside the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center in Grand Rapids, Mich., falling to Lawrence Tech 2-1 after defeating Concordia (Mich.) 2-0 in the quarterfinals.

Entering the tournament as the third seed, the Gray Wolves swept the sixth-seeded Cardinals in the quarterfinals.  The first game went close to seeding as Lourdes won the first round in dominant fashion, finishing in less than 25 minutes.  Game two was a bit closer as it took the Gray Wolves over 35 minutes to finish, but it was a personal success for Cameron Garcia (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) as they went 7/4/12 with one of their best showings of the season.

The semifinals were a long, drawn-out series as Lourdes matched up against second-seeded Lawrence Tech,  The first game showcased the engage abilities of Grant Bridges (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater H.S.) as they lead the charge in the round, going 5/3/22 as Lourdes won in a lengthy 42 minutes. However, the Blue Devils would bounce back in game two, easily dismantling the Gray Wolves in less than 26 minutes and holding Lourdes to only six kills.  Yet, game three would be a match to remember.  Falling behind early in the match, the Gray Wolves fought back from an 8k gold deficit to make the game very close.  However, a pick onto Evan Angstrom (Lexington, Ky./Lafayette H.S.) opened the door for Lawrence Tech to win the game, and ultimately the series.
