Upcoming in Gray Wolves Baseball: A seven-game road trip begins this week for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves begin with a non-conference twinbill at Point Park on Wednesday. The Gray Wolves play their final two road WHAC doubleheaders over the weekend, traveling to Northwestern Ohio on Saturday and Indiana Tech on Sunday.
Head Coach Josh Bradford: In his third season in the Lourdes dugout,
Josh Bradford has a 48-49 (.495) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach. He is the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Probable Starters: Jake Boyd (LHP, 3-4, 5.33) and
Anderson Strunk (LHP, 2-3, 7.40) are scheduled to start the two games at Point Park on Wednesday for the Gray Wolves. On Saturday,
Caleb Loboschefski (RHP, 4-2, 5.00) and
Joey Oehlers (LHP, 4-2, 4.42) are expected to be handed the baseball at Northwestern Ohio. In Sunday's twinbill at Indiana Tech,
Wyatt Smith (RHP, 1-1, 6.66) and
Bryn Biemiller (RHP, 0-2, 5.70) are the scheduled starters for Lourdes.
Series Notes: Point Park holds a 5-2 series advantage against Lourdes dating back to March 4, 2012. The Gray Wolves swept a doubleheader from the Pioneers last season at Mercy Field though, winning 2-1 and 9-8. Northwestern Ohio holds a 25-2 all-time edge against the Gray Wolves dating back to March 28, 2012 and have won 15 straight against Lourdes. Last year the Racers posted 5-2 and 12-2 wins at Mercy Field. Indiana Tech is 29-1 against Lourdes in a series that began April 27, 2012. The two schools split a twinbill at Mercy Field last season, with Lourdes wining the opener 2-1 before the Warriors took game two 9-7.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Josh Hare's walk-off double in game one on Tuesday lifted Lourdes to an 8-7 victory over Michigan-Dearborn.
Steve Haugh had three RBI while
Austin Ford pitched two innings of scoreless relief for the win. In game two, Lourdes managed just four hits in a 3-1 setback to the Wolverines. Hare had three RBI and the Gray Wolves scored 10 runs in the fifth of game one on Friday and defeated Cleary 10-7. The Cougars responded winning game two 10-3. On Saturday,
Caleb Loboschefski tossed a complete game and
Gabe Scott hit a grand slam as Lourdes downed Cornerstone 8-2 in game one. The Golden Eagles answered with a 13-4 victory in game two.
Scouting Point Park: The Pioneers have won four straight games following last weekend's series sweep with Midway. Gianmarco Marcelletti leads Point Park batting .422 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI for a team hitting .308. The pitching staff sports a 3.59 earned run average with teams batting just .264 against them.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers have won three straight entering the week after sweeping a doubleheader from Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday. Northwestern Ohio plays a single game at Aquinas on Tuesday before hosting Lourdes. Yadi Rivera is hitting a team-leading .429 with six homers and 37 RBI for an offense batting .320 as a team. The pitching staff sports a 5.51 ERA with opponents batting .247 against the Racers.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors enter the week following a doubleheader loss to Lawrence Tech on Saturday. Indiana Tech faces Saint Francis (Ind.) on Tuesday, Manchester on Wednesday, and Siena Heights on Saturday before entertaining Lourdes. Tyler Stahl is hitting .351 for the Warriors with three homers and 21 RBI while Ashtin Moxey has five home runs for an offense hitting .280 overall. The Indiana Tech pitching staff sports a 5.64 ERA and opponents are batting .277 against them.
Setting the School Mark: Lourdes has reached the 20-win plateau for just the second time in program history. The Gray Wolves set a new school record for wins in a season with their 23rd victory of the season on Saturday against Cornerstone. They surpassed the previous mark of 22 set by the 2018 squad which finished the year 22-23. Lourdes is now looking to finish the year over .500 for the first time in program history.
Haugh Leading the Charge: Steve Haugh is making the most of his first season in a Lourdes uniform. The sophomore transfer has a team-high 41 hits, is batting .350, and paces the squad with 30 runs batted in. He is also tied for the team lead with 10 doubles and second with three home runs.
Getting on Base: Lourdes has posted a .381 on base percentage as a team while hitting just .279. The Gray Wolves have drawn 152 walks, 40 more than the pitchers have allowed, and have been hit by 44 pitches this season.
A One-Two Punch: Caleb Loboschefski and
Joey Oehlers have been a solid one-two on the mound for the Gray Wolves this year. Both are 4-2 on the season with Lobochefski striking out 36 in 45 innings and Oehlers fanning 30 in 36.2 innings of work.
Streaking: Harrison Jackson has reached base safely in his last 10 games.
Josh Hare had his 11-game hitting streak snapped in game two against Cornerstone, also ending his 21-game on base streak. Jackson now has the longest current hitting streak at five straight games.
This and That: Not one Gray Wolf has appeared in all 38 games this season, with only
Steve Haugh playing in, and starting 37 of them ... Lourdes has committed just 46 errors this season, fielding at a .961 clip, but the miscues have led to 28 unearned runs.
