Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes opens a four-match road trip this week with a pair of matches in the Hoosier State.  The Gray Wolves head to Goshen for a Wednesday evening contest before concluding the Indiana week on Saturday afternoon at Marian.

Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over as the second head coach in program's history prior to the 2019 season.  Johnson sports a 99-113-10 (.468) record overall in his 12th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 24-29-1 (.454) mark in his second year at Lourdes.

Series Notes: Goshen leads the all-time series against Lourdes 2-1 dating back to Sept. 8, 2018.  The Gray Wolves scored a 2-1 victory over the Maple Leafs at Wildcat Stadium last season for their first win in the series.  Goshen won the only previous meeting in Goshen, Ind. 1-0 during the 2019 campaign.  Lourdes and Marian will be meeting on the pitch in men's soccer for the first time on Saturday.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Georgetown (Ky.) scored in the fifth minute and added another tally with less than four minutes to play last Thursday (Aug. 18) as the Tigers defeated Lourdes 2-0 at Wildcat Stadium.  Alex Brock made two saves in goal for the Gray Wolves.

Scouting Goshen: The Maple Leafs are opening their 2022 season against Lourdes after posting a 6-9-3 record overall and a 2-7 mark in the Crossroads League one year ago.  Goshen returns its leading scorer from 2021, Lucas Bontreger, who scored nine goals and had five assists for 23 total points.  Lars Razor also returns after tallying six goals last year.  Matias da Fonseca played more than 1,600 minutes in goal for the Maple Leafs last year and is back again this season after sporting a 1.46 goals against average and a .714 save percentage.

Scouting Marian: The Knights opened their season on Saturday (Aug. 20) with a 1-0 victory at Brescia.  Evan Dawdy scored the lone goal of the match with Romaric Berneron drawing the assist.  Brendan Weiger made four saves in goal for Marian to earn the clean sheet.  Marian travels to NCAA Division I IUPUI on Thursday before hosting Lourdes.

Gray Wolf Debuts: A pair of transfers made their Lourdes debuts in the season opener.  Victor Espinoza drew a start after arriving on campus from Fort Hays State while Alex Brock earned the start in goal after transferring to the Gray Wolf program from Adrian.  Lourdes did not have any freshmen appear on opening day.

Facing the Crossroads League: Lourdes will become familiar with the Crossroads League on its current four-match road trip, with all four opponents coming from the league.  The Gray Wolves are 2-6 all-time against current members of the conference, with the two wins coming against Bethel (Ind.) and Goshen.

Seeking 100: The next victory for the Gray Wolves will be head coach Matt Johnson's 100th of his collegiate coaching career.  Johnson is currently in his 12th season overall and enters the week with a 99-113-10 career mark.

Seeing Colors: The season opener saw a bevy of cards handed out by the officials.  A total of 10 cards were issued in the Georgetown (Ky.) match.  Lourdes was handed a straight red as well as three yellows while the Tigers picked up six yellows, including five in the first 32 minutes of action.

That's a Lot of Matches: N'Faly Diallo enters the week holding the school record with 54 career starts during his time at Lourdes.  He ranks third all-time with 67 total appearances, just two shy of Jose Silviera (2017-2021) for second.  Robert Pereznegron is one start shy of Diallo's mark entering the week and is fourth on the matches played list with 64 appearances.

In the Record Books: Darius Passley-Bennett and Leon Eisert are tied for eighth all-time with seven career goals.  They trail Haggi Amirally by one goal for seventh on the all-time charts.  Eisert is also tied with Akilla Arno (2015-2017) for third with nine career assists.  He is one helper shy of the school mark held by Jake Kirchoff-Sleet (2015-2016) and Farouk Amoo (2018-2021).  Andris Klempert ranks sixth on the career assists list with seven, needing one more to match Savio Adams (2018, 2020-21) for fifth in school history.

More Top Performances: Leon Eisert is currently tied for fifth with Reece Riccardi (2016-2019) with 23 career points.  Darius Passley-Bennett is tied for 10th on the list with Akilla Arno (2015-2017), each tallying 17 points.  Hussein Sbeiti has three career match-winning goals, tied for third most in program history.  Sbeiti is one match-winner shy of Judah Goodridge's (2015-2017) second place mark of four.

Gray Wolves Tabbed Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was selected to finish in fifth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  The Gray Wolves were picked just behind fifth place Madonna.  Indiana Tech was the unanimous selection to win the league crown.

Team Captains: N'Faly Diallo, Anthony Samuel, and Igor Silva will serve as team captains for the 2022 season.

This and That: Lourdes is 26-36-1 all-time in road matches ... Igor Silva is third all-time at Lourdes with four career shutouts in goal ... the Gray Wolves failed to score in a season opener for just the second time (Taylor, 2019) in the loss to Georgetown (Ky.) ... Lourdes held a 12-8 shot advantage in the opener ... Leon Eisert moved into seventh place alone with 56 career shot attempts after three against Georgetown (Ky.).
