Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes concludes a four-match road trip this week with a pair of contests as the Gray Wolves seek their first victory in 2022. Lourdes heads to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Wednesday afternoon before traveling to Huntington for a Saturday matinee.
Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over as the second head coach in program's history prior to the 2019 season. Johnson sports a 99-114-11 (.467) record overall in his 12th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 24-30-2 (.446) mark in his second year at Lourdes.
Series Notes: Mount Vernon Nazarene won the only previous match between the two schools, 3-1, on Sept. 18, 2018. The Gray Wolves and Huntington will be meeting on the pitch in men's soccer for the first time ever on Saturday.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Anthony Samuel put Lourdes in front with a first half goal on Wednesday (Aug. 24), but Goshen tied the contest midway through the second half as the Gray Wolves and Maple Leafs battled to a 1-1 draw.
Alex Brock made four saves in goal for Lourdes. On Saturday (Aug. 27), Marian scored three times in a 17-minute span in the first half on the way to a 4-2 victory over the Gray Wolves. Samuel and
Hussein Sbeiti found the back of the net for the Gray Wolves while Brock had six stops in net.
Scouting Mount Vernon Nazarene: The Cougars have won all three of their matches to open the 2022 season after downing Aquinas 2-0 at home on Saturday. Keon Boney leads Mount Vernon Nazarene with five points on the season, scoring twice while adding an assist. Tiago DeJesus and Sam Hershey have both scored twice this season for the Cougars as well. In goal, Joshua Dunn sports a 0.67 goals against average and an .895 save percentage while registering one shutout in 270 minutes of action.
Scouting Huntington: The Foresters picked up their first win of the season on Aug. 20 as Huntington downed Indiana-Northwest 3-0. Garrett Klefeker has scored twice this season while Joao Ratinho has also found the back of the net for Huntington. Dan Pellegrine made five saves and yielded one goal in net in the season opener at Olivet Nazarene for the Foresters while Pedro Moreia had one stop in a clean sheet against Indiana-Northwest.
Gray Wolf Debuts: Leandro Bisanzio Pereira,
Eli Bride,
Angelo Cuttaia, and
Carlos Enamorado all made their Lourdes debuts at Goshen last Wednesday while
Sidel Murray was credited with the first appearance of his collegiate career on Saturday at Marian.
Facing the Crossroads League: Lourdes is wrapping up a four-match road trip, all against members of the Crossroads League. The Gray Wolves are 2-8 all-time against current members of the conference, with the two wins coming against Bethel (Ind.) and Goshen.
Seeking 100: The next victory for the Gray Wolves will be head coach
Matt Johnson's 100th of his collegiate coaching career. Johnson is currently in his 12th season overall and enters the week with a 99-114-11 career mark.
Quick Start to the Year: Anthony Samuel has found the back of the net in back-to-back matches and now has six career goals for the Gray Wolves.

N'Faly Diallo's mark for career starts entering the week with 55 and also ranks fourth on the all-time matches played list with 66 appearances. Diallo is second all-time at Lourdes with 54 career starts during his time at Lourdes. He also ranks third all-time with 67 total appearances, just two shy of Jose Silviera (2017-2021) for second.
In the Record Books: Darius Passley-Bennett and
Leon Eisert are tied for eighth all-time with seven career goals. They trail Haggi Amirally by one goal for seventh on the all-time charts. Eisert is also tied with Akilla Arno (2015-2017) for third with nine career assists. He is one helper shy of the school mark held by Jake Kirchoff-Sleet (2015-2016) and
Farouk Amoo (2018-2021).
Andris Klempert ranks sixth on the career assists list with seven, needing one more to match
Savio Adams (2018, 2020-21) for fifth in school history.
More Top Performances: Leon Eisert is currently tied for fifth with Reece Riccardi (2016-2019) with 23 career points.
Darius Passley-Bennett is tied for 10th on the list with Akilla Arno (2015-2017), each tallying 17 points.
Hussein Sbeiti has three career match-winning goals, tied for third most in program history. Sbeiti is one match-winner shy of Judah Goodridge's (2015-2017) second place mark of four.
Gray Wolves Tabbed Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was selected to finish in fifth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. The Gray Wolves were picked just behind fifth place Madonna. Indiana Tech was the unanimous selection to win the league crown.
