Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes takes its three-match winning streak on the road this week for a pair of contests. The Gray Wolves head to 11th-ranked Northwestern Ohio for a midweek contest on Wednesday before traveling to Lawrence Tech for a Saturday evening affair.
Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over as the second head coach in program's history prior to the 2019 season. Johnson sports a 102-116-11 (.469) record overall in his 12th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 27-32-2 (.459) mark in his second year at Lourdes.
Series Notes: Northwestern Ohio has won all eight previous matches against Lourdes in a series that began on Sept. 26, 2015. The Racers notched a 4-1 victory over the Gray Wolves during the 2021 regular season before defeating Lourdes 2-1 in overtime in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference quarterfinals. Northwestern Ohio is 5-0 against the Gray Wolves in Lima, Ohio. Lawrence Tech holds a 6-1 series advantage against Lourdes dating back to Oct. 3, 2015. The Blue Devils have won six straight meetings between the two schools after a 3-1 victory at Wildcat Stadium last season. Lawrence Tech holds a 3-0 series edge in matches played in Southfield, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Trailing by a goal at halftime on Saturday at home against Cornerstone,
Hussein Sbeiti knotted the match at one with a goal in the 63rd minutes.
Jonas Kreutzberg then tallied the match-winner with juts 9:39 to play as the Gray Wolves defeated the Golden Eagles 2-1.
Alex Brock made five saves in goal in the victory.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers have won back-to-back matches after a 1-0 triumph over Siena Heights on Saturday at home. Tomas Echevarria leads Northwestern Ohio with seven goals and 15 total points this season while Gonzalo La Chica has added four tallies. Lucas Vazquez leads the Racers with three assists. In goal, Danilo Abayo has played a majority of the minutes, sporting a 0.93 goals against average and an .808 save percentage.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils are still looking for their first victory of the season after a 2-1 setback on the road at Indiana Tech on Saturday. Lawrence Tech hosts Rochester (Mich.) on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes. Guillermo Garcia has scored a team-high five goals for to points on the year for Lawrence Tech while Alex Hall has added a pair of goals and has five points. In goal, Marko Matovski has played a majority of the minutes, sporting a 3.01 goals against average and a .611 save percentage.
Three Straight Winners for Kreutzberg: Jonas Kreutzberg has made the most of his first three collegiate goals, all of which have come over the past three matches. The sophomore has delivered the match-winning goal in all three victories for the Gray Wolves in 2022, one shy of the school's single season mark in that category.
Brock Steady in Goal: Alex Brock has been solid in his first season in goal for the Gray Wolves. The sophomore transfer sports a 1.50 goals against average and a .700 save percentage while recording a shutout in his six matches.
Sbeiti Moves into Seventh All-Time in Goals: Hussein Sbeiti scored his second goal of the season against Cornerstone to pull the Gray Wolves even in the match. The tally was the eighth of his career, moving him into a tie with Haggi Amirally (2016-2017) for seventh on the Gray Wolves' all-time goal-scoring chart.
Eisert Matches Career Assist Mark: Leon Eisert picked up his first assist of the season on
Hussein Sbeiti's goal against Cornerstone. The helper was the 10th of his career, tying the school record set by Jake Kirchoff-Sleet (2015-2016) and also matched by
Farouk Amoo (2018-2021).
On the All-Time Lists: Darius Passley-Bennett and
Leon Eisert are tied for ninth all-time with seven career goals.
Andris Klempert ranks sixth on the career assists list with seven, needing one more to match

Gray Wolves Tabbed Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was selected to finish in fifth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. The Gray Wolves were picked just behind fifth place Madonna. Indiana Tech was the unanimous selection to win the league crown.
