Lourdes faced a pair of nationally-ranked foes on Friday afternoon at the NWCA Multi-National Duals, falling 43-9 to top-ranked Grand View and 30-19 to 13th-ranked Lindsey Wilson inside the Kentucky Events Center in Louisville, Ky.

"This was an awesome and tough day of competition for us," head coach Dock Kelly III said afterwards.  "We wrestled the number one team in the nation and had several hard-fought matches.  This dual team tournament gives us a great feel for where we are at this stage of the season."

In the opening match against the Vikings, Will Speight (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford H.S.) registered a victory at 184 pounds, posting a 17-10 decision, over Tyson Beauperthuy.  Joe Dreisbach (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern H.S.) also picked up a victory at 285 pounds.  He led Greg Hagan, the number one wrestler in the nation at that weight class 1-0 after the opening period before his opponent defaulted due to injury.

Speight added another victory in the match against Lindsey Wilson.  The Gray Wolves' grappler, ranked 20th in the latest national poll, pinned Joe Kuntz just 2:06 into the contest for his 12th victory of the season.

"Will Speight showed that he is going to be a force to be reckoned with at the national tournament," Kelly added.  I'm proud of the way he is competing against elite competition."

Derrick Coleman (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde H.S.) also registered a fall at 157 pounds.  He pinned his opponent, Trevor Pogue, in just 1:11.  Trevor Hisey (St. Marys, Ohio/Memorial H.S.) recorded a win at 133 pounds with a 7-5 decision while Drew Torres (Phoenix, Ariz./Tempe Union H.S.) registered a major decision by an 11-3 score.

Lourdes also had three wrestlers competing in the NUWAY Combat Open, with each Gray Wolf recording at least two victories.  Jimmy Balazy (Parma, Ohio/Padua Franciscan H.S.) picked up two wins at 133 pounds, one by fall and another via tech fall.  Cyle Wells (Springfield, Ohio/Tecumseh H.S.) went 3-2 at 149 pounds with two pins and a decision.  Tommy Mabry (St. Marys, Ohio/Memorial H.S.) closed out the action with two more triumphs at 165 pounds, both by falls.

Lourdes (4-4) returns to the mat for two more matches on Saturday morning to close the event.  The Gray Wolves will face 19th-ranked Oklahoma City at 9 a.m. before battling either ninth-ranked Campbellsville or Cornerstone in a 1 p.m. contest.
