Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: Lourdes returns to the road for a pair of games this week. The Gray Wolves close out non-conference action on Wednesday with a trip to Thomas More before opening Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Saturday evening with a visit to Aquinas.
Head Coach Patrick Yannarelli: In his 10th season on the Lourdes bench,
Patrick Yannarelli has a 78-43 (.645) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Yannarelli was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2016. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Thomas More will be meeting in men's lacrosse for the first time ever on Wednesday afternoon. The Gray Wolves hold a 5-3 series advantage against Aquinas dating back to March 29, 2014. The Saints won last season's meeting 16-7 at Wildcat Stadium, and have won the last three contests between the two schools on the field, although the 2021 contest was later forfeited to Lourdes. The Gray Wolves are 3-1 against Aquinas in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes used a big second quarter to open up a 6-1 lead on Monday evening and defeated SCAD-Savannah 10-7 in the home opener at Wildcat Stadium.
Brock Meomartino scored three times and handed out two assists while
Garrett Boersma added two more tallies. In goal,
Jack Bichsel made eight saves for the victory.
Scouting Thomas More: The Saints picked up their first win in program history on Saturday, defeating Alderson Broaddus on the road. Spencer Lethbridge and Graham Houser lead Thomas More with 14 goals each while Nick Boriin has handed out 10 assists. Lethbridge has a team-high 21 points as well. In goal, Trevor Almanza has played every minute, sporting a 15.88 goals against average and a .457 save percentage.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints fell 17-8 on the road Saturday afternoon at fifth-ranked Reinhardt. Mitch Haggart leads Aquinas with 14 goals this season while Jon Jardis has handed out 19 assists and has a team-high 28 points. In goal, Clayton Boerigter has played a majority of the minutes, sporting an 11.03 goals against average and a .509 save percentage.
Lourdes in WHAC Openers: Lourdes is 4-2 all-time in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference openers. Last season, the Gray Wolves defeated Concordia (Mich.) 14-11 on the road to begin league play. Lourdes has won two of its last three conference openers.
On the Scoring Lists: Nick Johnson has passed Cory Campbell (2017-2021) for fourth all-time at Lourdes with 123 career points. Johnson's 91 career goals also rank fourth most in program history while his 31 career assists rank him eighth.
Freshman Starting His Career Strong: Brock Meomartino has made the most of his first four collegiate games. The freshman leads Lourdes with 12 goals this season, while also sharing the team lead with five assists for 17 total points. Meomartino leads Lourdes with 43 total shot attempts this season as well.
