Upcoming in Gray Wolves Baseball: Lourdes looks to return to the win column this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders. The Gray Wolves take to the road on Friday to face Lawrence Tech for a pair of games before hosting Michigan-Dearborn at Mercy Field on Saturday afternoon.
Head Coach Josh Bradford: In his fourth season in the Lourdes dugout,
Josh Bradford has a 62-69 (.473) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach. He is the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Probable Starters: Wyatt Smith (RHP, 2-1, 5.10) is expected to start the opener of Friday's doubleheader against Lawrence Tech. The Gray Wolves have not decided on a game two starter at this time. On Saturday,
Joey Oehlers (LHP, 3-3, 8.89) will toe the rubber in the opener against Michigan-Dearborn while the game two starter has yet to be determined.
Series Notes: Lawrence Tech leads the all-time series 8-4 against Lourdes dating back to March 18, 2017. The Blue Devils have won the last three meetings between the two teams, including a 6-0 and 2-1 doubleheader sweep last season at Mercy Field. The two teams split the only previous meeting at Jimmy Johns Field in 2021. The Gray Wolves are 7-2 in the series all-time against Michigan-Dearborn dating back to Sept. 23, 2017. The two teams split a doubleheader at Mercy Field last season, with Lourdes winning the opener 8-7 before the Wolverines took game two 3-1. All nine previous games have taken place at Mercy Field.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh of game one to defeat Siena Heights 9-8 on Wednesday.
Joel Suraganan went 4-for-5 while
Braden Zuber earned the win out of the bullpen. In game two, Suraganan drove in five runs and
Avery Harper tossed five shutout innings in a 20-2 victory. Lourdes was limited to just three hits in game one and six in game two of Sunday's doubleheader against Concordia (Mich.), falling 2-0 and 10-1. On Monday, the Cardinals completed the series sweep, winning 11-2 and 11-1.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils have won two straight games after defeating Cleary in game two on Sunday as well as winning on Monday. Jason Erhardt leads Lawrence Tech batting .409 while Jackson Walkowiak has hit a team-high three home runs. Jacob Llaneza has driven home 23 runs on the season. The pitching staff sports a 7.73 earned run average with opposing teams batting .317 against the Blue Devils.
Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines enter the week having dropped three straight games after losing both ends of a doubleheader against Aquinas on Sunday. Michigan-Dearborn hosts Siena Heights on Thursday before visiting Lourdes. Max McLennan leads the Wolverines hitting .350 on the season. Matthew Williams has a team-high two home runs and 12 runs batted in. The Michigan-Dearborn pitching staff sports a 9.58 earned run average with teams hitting .338 against the Wolverines.
Putting Up Runs: The 20-run output against Siena Heights on Wednesday marked the third time this season the Gray Wolves have scored 20 or more runs in a contest. Lourdes also scored 20 in a season-opening 20-10 win at Pikeville and tallied 24 runs in a 24-5 victory at Rochester (Mich.) on March 24. The 24 runs against Rochester were the third most in a game in program history.
Raking at the Plate: Joel Suraganan enters the weekend batting .435 (37-of-85) this season, tops on the roster by 71 points. He has scored a team-leading 27 runs and has 10 extra base hits, including five doubles, two triples, and shares the team lead with three home runs. Suraganan has 11 multi-hit games and has driven in 22 runs as well while stealing a team-high six bases.
Streak Ends: Steve Haugh reached base safely in the first 23 games of the season before having his streak come to an end in the opener of Monday's doubleheader against Concordia (Mich.). He began a new streak in game two of the twinbill though to reach safely in 24 of the first 25 games of the year.

Ryan Jagodzinski have started all 25 contests for the Gray Wolves.
Josh Hare has been penciled into the lineup card 23 times.
Quite a First Start: Avery Harper made his first start of the season, and just the second of his collegiate career, last Wednesday against Siena Heights. He opened game two of the doubleheader with five shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out two. Harper now has a 2-1 record on the season.
Gray Wolves Tabbed Eighth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was picked to finish eighth in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in the 2023 preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. The Gray Wolves were slotted just behind Cornerstone and just ahead of Aquinas. Northwestern Ohio was tabbed as the preseason favorite.
This and That: Josh Hare has been walked a team-high 23 times this season and has a team-best .515 on base percentage ... the Gray Wolves are hitting .300 as a team ... Lourdes committed just two errors in the series against Concordia (Mich.) ... the Gray Wolves look to remain unbeaten at home with the doubleheader against Michigan-Dearborn.
