Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes continues its three-match road trip on Tuesday evening, wrapping up non-league action with a trip to Taylor. The Gray Wolves then open up Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday, closing out the road trip with a visit to Cornerstone.
Head Coach Matt Johnson: Matt Johnson took over as the second head coach in program's history prior to the 2019 season. Johnson sports a 105-123-17 (.463) record overall in his 13th season as a men's collegiate soccer coach and has a 30-39-9 (.442) mark in his third year at Lourdes.
Series Notes: Taylor won the only previous meeting between the two schools, 1-0 in overtime, on Aug. 20, 2019 in a match that also took place in Upland, Ind. Lourdes holds a 5-4 all-time edge against Cornerstone in a series that began Oct. 28, 2015. The Gray Wolves have won the last two contests, and four of the last five, against the Golden Eagles after a 2-1 triumph at Wildcat Stadium last year. Lourdes is 3-1 against Cornerstone in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes and Point Park battled for 90 minutes in Coraopolis, Pa. on Wednesday before settling for a 2-2 draw.
Federico Reali scored just before halftime to tie the match at one before an own goal allowed the Gray Wolves to take a 2-1 lead early in the second half. The Pioneers tied the contest with just over 20 minutes remaining.
Alex Brock made four saves between the posts for Lourdes.
Scouting Taylor: The Trojans enter the match following a 3-0 setback on the road at Lawrence Tech last Wednesday evening. Matt Yoder has scored twice and added an assist to lead the team with five points this season while Justin Devlin has a team-leading two assists. Between the posts, Sam Spiegel has played every minute, sporting a 1.71 goals against average and a .707 save percentage.
Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles will enter the match on the heels of a 2-1 win over Adrian last Saturday evening. Tyler Corstange paces Cornerstone offensively with a team-high three goals and seven total points. Pablo Rodriguez has handed out a team-best two assists. The Golden Eagles have used four different goalkeepers, led by Roberto Gutierrez, who sports a 1.93 goals against average and a .694 save percentage in 512 minutes of action.
Lourdes in WHAC Openers: Lourdes is 5-2-1 all-time in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference openers. The Gray Wolves have won five of their last six league openers, including three straight after defeating Cornerstone 2-1 at home to begin conference play in 2022. Lourdes is 4-1 when opening the league slate away Wildcat Stadium.
Reali Nets First Collegiate Goal:
Federico Reali scored his first collegiate goal for the Gray Wolves at Point Park, tying the match at one. Reali missed all of the 2022 season. He previously had two points to his credit though with a pair of assists in 2021. Reali has appeared in 15 matches for the Gray Wolves.
Own Goals a Rarity: When the Gray Wolves took their 2-1 lead at Point by virtue of an own goal, it marked the first time Lourdes had been the beneficiary of such a tally since Oct. 12, 2016 when the Gray Wolves scored an own goal in a 2-0 victory over Siena Heights. Those are the only two own goals in program history.
Handing Out Helpers: Hussein Sbeiti has handed out the only Lourdes assist thus far this season. In doing so, Sbeiti moved into a tie with Savio Adams (2018, 2020-21) for fifth on the Gray Wolves' career assist list. Sbeiti also moved into a tie with
Anthony Samuel (2020-2022) on the program's career points list with his 24th.

Joseph Slaske made his collegiate debut for the Gray Wolves last Wednesday at Point Park.
Alejandro Rios also saw his first action of the 2023 season for Lourdes.
In the Record Books: Diego Pereira is tied with Brendon Long (2018-2020) for eighth all-time at Lourdes with nine career goals. They trail Reece Riccardi (2016-2019) by just one goal for seventh on the all-time charts. Pereira is also ninth on the school's all-time points list with 22, trailing Riccardi by one.
More Top Performances: Hussein Sbeiti is also ranked in the top-10 in scoring for the Gray Wolves. He is tied with Haggi Amirally (2016-2017) for 10th with eight career goals while his eight assists are tied with Savio Adams (2018, 2020-21) for sixth on that chart. Sbeiti's 24 career points match
Anthony Samuel's (2020-2022) total which ranks sixth all-time at Lourdes.
Lots of Appearances: Hussein Sbeiti has moved into seventh place all-time at Lourdes with 54 career appearances on the pitch. He trails Reece Riccardi (2016-2019) by three appearances for sixth on the all-time list. Sbeiti has started 36 career contests, needing two more starts to crack the top-10.
Brock Solid in Goal: Alex Brock has recorded three career shutouts and ranks fourth in program history for career clean sheets. His 1530 minutes in goal rank fourth all-time while he has moved into third all time with 64 saves. Brock sports a .727 career save percentage and a 1.41 goals against mark.
Gray Wolves Tabbed Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was selected to finish in sixth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. The Gray Wolves were picked just behind fifth place Lawrence Tech. Madonna was selected to win the league crown.
