Men's Lacrosse Hits the Road for Two WHAC Battles

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: After a three-game homestand, Lourdes returns to the road this week for a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests.  The Gray Wolves head to Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday night before traveling to Madonna for a Saturday afternoon affair.

Head Coach Will Lowe: In his first season on the Lourdes bench, Will Lowe has a 3-2 (.600) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  Lowe is in his fifth season as a collegiate head coach, sporting a 25-25 (.500) career mark.  He is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes is 8-1 all-time against Michigan-Dearborn in a series that began March 16, 2014.  The Gray Wolves have won four straight meetings against the Wolverines after a 9-8 triumph at Wildcat Stadium last season.    Lourdes is 3-0 against Michigan-Dearborn on the Wolverine's home field.  The Gray Wolves lead the all-time series against Madonna 4-3 dating back to March 17, 2017.  Last season the Crusaders scored a 13-12 triple-overtime win at Wildcat Stadium.  Lourdes is 2-0 all-time in Livonia, Mich.

Wrapping Up Last Week: The Gray Wolves opened WHAC play at home on Saturday falling 20-11 to sixth-ranked Aquinas.  Caden Louthan scored three times and added an assist while Kalani Hale also had three goals for the Gray Wolves.  In goal, Xander Slate made 16 stops for Lourdes.

Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines snapped a three-game losing skid on Saturday with a 15-8 triumph over Lawrence Tech to open WHAC play.  Nolan Kelley has scored a team-leading 19 goals and has 20 total points while Jeremy Fancett has 15 goals and 19 points.  Joseph Atherall has handed out a team-high six assists.  In goal, Owen Reed has played a majority of the minutes, sporting an 8.71 goals against average and a .558 save percentage.

Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders opened WHAC play on Saturday with a 13-12 setback at Taylor.  Madonna hosts Siena Heights on Wednesday before entertaining  Lourdes.  Reid Dunavant leads Madonna with 19 goals this season while Zachary Lane has a team-high 13 assists as well as 26 points.  Nick Bryden has added 18 goals and 23 points.  In net, Jeff Varner sports a 10.89 goals against average and a .661 save percentage this season.

Durham Collects Ground Balls: Jack Durham had a team-leading nine grounds balls against Aquinas on Saturday, giving him 23 for the season.  He is second on the team in that category behind the Gray Wolves' main faceoff man, Dique Reid, who has picked up 32 grounds balls.

Slate Solid in Goal: Xander Slate has been solid for the Gray Wolves in goal in his first season between the posts.  He has played all but 15 minutes for Lourdes, sporting an 8.62 goals against average and a .523 save percentage.  He made 16 saves against Aquinas, a career high.

Leading the Offense: Kalani Hale and Caden Louthan have paced the offense through the first five games this season.  Both have 21 points on the year.  Hale has scored 17 times while Louthan leads the team with 10 assists.

Winning Faceoffs: Dique Reid has led the way at the X for the Gray Wolves.  He has won 56 of the 78 (71.8%) faceoffs in which he has taken.

Lourdes Tabbed Ninth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was picked to finish ninth in this season's preseason coaches' poll.  The Gray Wolves were picked to finish just behind Taylor and Michigan-Dearborn in the balloting.  Indiana Tech is the preseason favorite.

This and That: A total of 10 different Gray Wolves have scored goals this season and 12 different players have at least one point ... Caden Louthan has surpassed 50 career goals and now has 52 during his time at Lourdes ... Louthan's 29 career assists rank him ninth all-time in program history in that category.
