Upcoming in Gray Wolves Baseball: Lourdes looks to snap an eight-game losing skid on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Indiana Tech at Mercy Field. The Gray Wolves then hit the road for the weekend, playing a four-game series at Northwestern Ohio with doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
Head Coach Josh Bradford: In his fifth season in the Lourdes dugout,
Josh Bradford has a 76-100 (.432) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves, as well as in his career as a collegiate head coach. He is the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Probable Starters: Bryn Biemiller (RHP, 0-2, 8.53) and
Avery Harper (RHP, 1-0, 9.00) are the probable starters for the Gray Wolves in Wednesday's twinbill against Indiana Tech.
Brenden Holland (LHP, 0-4, 8.71) and
Caleb Loboschefski (RHP, 2-1, 2.55) are slated to start the two games on Saturday for the Gray Wolves at Northwestern Ohio. On Sunday,
Wyatt Smith (RHP, 1-3, 7.71) and
Austin Nuhfer (LHP, 0-2, 5.11) will pitch for Lourdes to wrap up the series against the Racers.
Series Notes: Indiana Tech is 31-3 all-time against Lourdes in a series that dates back to April 27, 2012. The Gray Wolves swept a doubleheader from the Warriors last season at Mercy Field though, winning the opener 9-8 before taking game two 15-5. Indiana Tech is 18-3 against Lourdes at Mercy Field. Northwestern Ohio holds a 29-9 series advantage against the Gray Wolves dating back to March 28, 2012. The Racers have won the last 19 meetings between the two schools after sweeping a doubleheader in Lima, Ohio last year 7-6 and 26-10. Northwestern Ohio is 19-1 against Lourdes all-time in Lima.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Point Park swept a non-conference doubleheader from the Gray Wolves 11-7 and 20-4 on Tuesday afternoon, hitting 10 home runs over the two games.
Alex Dupree had three hits, including a homer, in the opener for Lourdes while
Jase Kennedy drove in three runs and also hit a long ball. In game two, Kennedy had another homer and three RBI. On Friday, Madonna took a twinbill from the Gray Wolves 12-1 and 8-6. Kennedy had two hits and the lone RBI in the opener while Nick DiGennero tallied two hits and two runs batted in in game two. On Saturday, Cleary swept a twinbill from Lourdes 7-2 and 7-3. Caleb Edwards-Dugan drove in two runs in game two.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors have won five straight games after sweeping a doubleheader from Rochester (Mich.) 9-6 and 11-6 on Saturday afternoon. Tyler Stahl leads the team batting .460 on the season with three home runs and 19 runs batted in. Patrick McGinn is hitting .397 while Eli MacDonald had driven in a team-high 23 runs. Parker Bates also shares the team's home run lead with three. Zach Zaborowski is 1-2 on the hill with 48 strikeouts in 28 innings this season. He sports a 3.86 earned run average.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers enter the week having won 15 consecutive games after sweeping Lawrence Tech 7-4 in eight innings and 11-5 on Saturday. Northwestern Ohio hosts Siena Heights on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes. Darius Freeman leads the Racers batting .439 with 23 RBI while Noah Matheson is hitting .406. Eliomar Otero and Titus Groeneweg share the team lead with four home runs each, with Otero also leading the Racers with 24 RBI. On the mound, Michael Joyce is 4-0 with a 0.49 ERA in 36.2 innings of work. He has struck out a team-high 38 batters.
Brinson on a Tear at the Plate: A.J. Brinson has settled into the leadoff spot in the batting order. He enters the week on an 11-game hitting streak, batting .500 (20-for-40) during the span. Dating back to the start of the streak in game two against Concordia (Mich.) on March 17, the sophomore has tallied five doubles and five RBI while posting a .545 on base percentage.
Leading the Pitching Staff: Caleb Loboschefski has been stellar in his five appearances this season. He is 2-1 with a 2.55 earned run average in 24.2 innings of work, including four starts. The redshirt-sophomore has shares the team lead with
Brenden Holland, each having struck out 21 hitters this year. Opponents are batting just .213 against Loboschefski this season.
Impressive Freshman: Alex Dupree has made the most of his collegiate debut for the Gray Wolves. The freshman is second on the team with 28 hits this season, including a team-high seven doubles. He enters the week batting .350 while sharing the team lead drawing 14 walks for a .442 on base percentage. In addition, he is second on the team lead with 12 runs batted in. Dupree also has a team-high five stolen bases. Defensively, he has been nearly flawless in the field, committing just one error in 151 chances.
Getting on Base: Nick DiGennaro enters the week with the longest active on base streak, having reached successfully in the last 12 games in which he has played. DiGennaro has been on base at least once in every game he has played since returning from the spring trip.
