HUNTINGTON, Ind. (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University men's soccer team kicked off its 2024 season on the road at Huntington University where the Gray Wolves fell to the host Foresters Saturday, four-nil.

"Tough first game for us," said Head Coach Matt Johnson. "With graduation losses from last year, we're replacing some really strong, experienced defenders, and I think we looked a little uncomfortable out there today. That uncertainty kind of crept through the team". 

"It's a good game to learn from," Johnson continued. "The other positive is that we now have 10 days of training to improve our fitness and cohesion, as well as to add a few quality players to the group."

Huntington scored its first goal in the first nine minutes of the match. Senior goalkeeper Alex Brock collected three of his five total saves on the day to keep the Foresters scoreless for the rest of the half. Additionally, Lourdes' three of its four total shot attempts came in the first frame of the game. 

A pair of goals in the 64th and 66th minute gave the host team a 3-0 edge over the Gray Wolves. Despite two more stops from Brock at the net, a late unassisted goal in the 87th minute sealed the deal for the Foresters to open their home season with a victory.  

Match Notes:
- (Alex) Brock earned five saves in the loss marking just the ninth time he has collected five or more saves in a single game during his three-year career. The last time the senior accomplished the feat was when he earned his career-high nine stops against Aquinas College, Oct. 14, 2023. 
- Transfer Bruno Duarte made his debut as a Lourdes Gray Wolf playing a full 90 minutes. 
- Six Lourdes players produced 90-minute efforts in the match

The pack will take a 10-day break from competition before heading to Mount Vernon, Ohio Wednesday, Aug. 28 for a 7 pm match against the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Cougars.
