SYLVANIA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) -- Following the regular season, the Lourdes University men's wrestling team prepares for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, February 15th. The championship meet is set to be hosted by Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Mich. Â
During the majority of the season, men's wrestling maintained a spot in the "20's" of the NAIA Coaches Top-25 Poll. At the peak of their season, Lourdes was ranked as high as No. 21 in the NAIA poll.Â
The strongest team performance outside of conference took place at the Baldwin Wallace Invitational back in November 2024. The team had their best outing finishing third place overall as a team. Major contributors included Ty Cobb who finished first place in his bracket while scoring 28.5 team points, Will Speight who scored 27.5 team points, Cole McKinley who scored 24.5 points, and Nick Rodriguez who scored 17 team points. Â
Lourdes delivered a dominant performance in its WHAC dual opener against Siena Heights, led by Nick Rodriguez, who secured a technical fall at 133 pounds. Cole McKinley (141), Derick Coleman (165), Dominico Migliori (174), Will Speight (184), and Carter Kroll (197) all recorded wins by fall, contributing to the Gray Wolves' commanding victory. Roman Cordoba (125) added a forfeit win, while Ty Cobb (285) battled in a hard-fought decision.Â
In the victory over Cleary University, Isaac Green (133) secured the first points of the day with a hard-fought decision, while Cole McKinley (149) and Ty Cobb (285) recorded pins to extend the Gray Wolves' lead. Will Speight (184) added a technical fall victory, showcasing his skill in a decisive win. Dru Wilson (141) and Ayden Wilson (174) contributed via forfeits.Â
Lourdes faced challenges late in the season, suffering back-to-back WHAC losses to Rochester Christian and Indiana Tech. The Gray Wolves finished conference play with a 2-4 record.
Several Gray Wolves also earned individual honors throughout the season. Ty Cobb was named WHAC Wrestler of the Week on November 25, 2024, after taking first place in his weight class at that week's tournament. Cole McKinley received the same recognition on February 11, 2025, following a dominant performance against Indiana Tech. Mckinley is one of the key contributors to this Lourdes wrestling team.Â
With WHAC dual competition wrapped up, Indiana Tech finished atop the standings with a perfect 6-0 record, followed closely by Marian at 5-1. Cornerstone secured third place with a 4-2 mark, while Rochester finished an even 3-3. Lourdes placed fifth in the conference at 2-4, ahead of Siena Heights (1-5) and Cleary (0-6). As the Gray Wolves shift their focus to postseason competition, they will look to build on their conference performances and make an impact at the WHAC Championships.
