Cheer Finishes 2nd in Opening League Meet

Rochester, MICH - The Gray Wolves' Cheer team earned a second-place finish in their first meet of the 2026 season on Saturday with an 80.93 final score.

The 2026 inaugural meet hosted by Rochester Christian was a good test for the Gray Wolves against tough league competition. The defending WHAC Champions competed hard and defeated Madonna, Aquinas, Rochester Christian and Cornerstone in the competition. The only team with a higher score than Lourdes was meet winner Siena Heights, who scored an 85.33.

Lourdes finished their routine with an 82.3 before losing 1.5 points worth of deductions. The final score was still higher than their opening meet score last season and better than four of their meets overall in last year's WHAC Championship run.

Coach Nieckarz's Postmeet Comments
"You really have to credit this team for the way they stepped onto the mat, especially considering everything they've navigated over the past few weeks," coach Nieckarz said. "The environment was heavy, and the atmosphere was unlike anything we've experienced. At that point, the focus wasn't on chasing a flawless performance, it was about asking them to give everything they had and to move forward together as a unit. This is a process for us. We are committed to progress over perfection. Getting the first competition behind us was an important step. Now we return to the drawing board with clarity, purpose, and confidence, continuing to build toward our end goal with intention."

Next Meet
The cheer team's next league meet is next Saturday, Jan. 31 at Siena Hieghts.
