Women’s Bowling’s Historic Season Ends at Sectionals

Gray Wolves finish in 16th place in the Pittsburgh region, 43rd in the country

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Lourdes women's bowling team finished in 16th place out of 17 teams in the Mt. Lebanon Lanes ITC Sectional over the weekend.

The Terracotta & Gray finished with 10,931 total pins, scoring 428 higher than Shawnee State. Lourdes was also within striking distance of WHAC foes, Cleary and Aquinas, who were both within 115 pins of the Gray Wolves.

The WHAC as a whole had an impressive night at sectionals with Indiana Tech finishing in fifth, Lawrence Tech in seventh, and Rochester Christian in ninth. Bowlers from those three squads also made up about half of the top 10 individual leaders in the event.

McKendree took home the Pittsburgh sectional championship for both the men's and women's sides, with St. Vincent College, Duquesne and Trine rounding out the top four team scores for the women.

Leading the way for Lourdes on the lanes was DeLayna Harvey, who finished the tournament in 33rd place out of 163 bowlers. Harvey scored a 1,125 with two games with over 200 pins.

Freshman phenom Veronica Flanagan finished in 56th place with a final score of 1,087. The WHAC Newcomer and Player of the Year had an outstanding 228 game four.

Rounding out the top three individual finishers for Lourdes was Jaycie Arnet, who came in 60th place with a solid final score of 1,078.

Although the Lourdes men's team didn't qualify for sectionals, some individuals did for the ISC's, including Gbolahon Olatoye and Reece Kramer. Olatoye finished in 28th place out of 175 bowlers with a final score of 1,158. Olatoye dropped a 246 game five, the fourth-best in the entire field.

Meanwhile, Kramer had one of his best rounds of his Lourdes career at sectionals, finishing in 13th place with a final score of 1,216. The Maumee native had three games where he rolled over a 200.

Overall, Coach Nusbaum and Coach Allen were extremely pleased with the women's performance at sectionals and put together the following statement about their incredible final season.

"It was a record breaking season both on and off the lanes for the bowlers," the coaches stated post-tournament. "The women set and re-set the Lourdes high game both individual and team highest scores ever. Qualifying for sectionals was such a huge honor as the ladies finished the regular season 43rd in the country. Off the lanes, the men and women combined for 14 Academic All Americans which were presented at Sectionals. What a way to go out."
