Lourdes Volleyball Downs MaryGrove

Gray Wolves get warmed up and dominate

Box Score
The Lourdes University women's volleyball team just needed to get the first set out of the way before finding their stride as they defeated the Mustangs of Marygrove last night. The Gray Wolves took the match on the night in four sets 22-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-9.

The Gray Wolves started out a little sluggish on the night in their first set losing a close one by three points 22-25. After being down 19-4 the Wolves kicked it in gear though they crept back into the match courtesy of some great consistent serving by Amanda Drew and excellent net play by Janelle Davis and Alli Mass. The set was stalled out though as the Wolves just couldn't capitalize after getting to the 22 point mark.

The second set was a different story though for Lourdes as they kept the same lineup but didn't commit as many errors and were able to extend the rallies needed as they went on to win 25-18 marking the first set victory of the season.

The third set was almost nearly identical and with the same outcome as the Wolves won 25-18 giving them a two sets to one advantage.

In the fourth set it was all domination by the Wolves behind the serving skills Amanda Drew, Lauren Hunt and Kirstin Kirk. Hannah Thompson did an excellent job setting up at the net creating a number of kills. The Mustangs had their will broke as the Wolves cruised on for a dominating three sets to one victory giving the Gray Wolves their first win of the season.

“It was a good first match of the season as we got our jitters out in set one. We did quite a few good things on the night especially with our effort. We're going to have to rely on our serving and defense throughout the year and it really showed in a positive way this match” said Coach Greg Reitz.
