Lourdes won its second consecutive Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves posted a 25-22, 16-25, 25-18, 25-16 road victory against Lawrence Tech at Ridler Fieldhouse in Southfield, Mich.
Ali Mass (Walbridge, Ohio/Tiffin Calvert H.S.) paced Lourdes with 10 kills in the win while
Andrea Brown (Northwood, Ohio/Northwood H.S.) added seven. Brown also had three blocks and three aces.
“Andrea played really well all-around tonight for us,” head coach
Greg Reitz stated after the match. “It is nice to get two conference wins back-to-back, especially this one on the road.”
Allegra Recknagel (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion H.S.) tallied a double-double with a team-high 11 digs while adding 28 assists and
Michi Jimenez (Vega Baja, P.R./Juan Quirindongo Morell H.S.) registered 10 digs.
Lourdes trailed 14-11 in set one before running off six consecutive points to take control, including a pair of aces by Brown. Lawrence Tech fought back to tie the set at 22, but a kill by Mass and two more by Brown closed out the opening set for the Gray Wolves.
Lawrence Tech bounced back in set two, racing out to an 8-2 lead while not looking back in evening the match at one set each.
Lourdes took a four-point lead midway through the third set and maintained that advantage until scoring the final four points for a seven-point victory. In the final set, the Gray Wolves scored five of the first six points only to see the Blue Devils tie the set at 11. Lourdes scored six of the next seven points behind the serving of Brown to defeat Lawrence Tech for the third time this season.
Kasey Clark led Lawrence Tech (9-17, 0-7 WHAC) with 15 kills and 16 digs while Karlene Foisy had 10 kills and 11 digs.
“We hope to take this momentum into our match on Wednesday,” Reitz concluded. “We've dropped two matches against Siena Heights so hopefully we can get them the third time around.”
Lourdes (9-16, 2-5) will return home to Tam-o-Shanter on Wednesday evening in search of their third straight win. First serve against Siena Heights is set for 7 p.m.
