Despite 16 kills from Keyonna Gregory (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.), Lourdes was unable to defeat Rio Grande on Friday evening, falling to the Red Storm 25-22, 29-27, 24-26, 25-21 at Owens Community College in Perrysburg, Ohio.
 
Gregory hit .583 after coming off of the bench for the final three sets while Michi Jimenez (Vega Baja, P.R./Juan Quirindongo Morell H.S.) averaged six digs per set for 18 in the contest.  Andrea Brown (Northwood, Ohio/Northwood H.S.) added 12 kills for the Gray Wolves while Allegra Recknagel (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion H.S.) handed out 42 assists.
 
Lourdes had to battle back from the opening point of set one.  An 8-2 run midway through the set put Rio Grande on top 16-9.  The Gray Wolves clawed back, closing to within two, 22-20, but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the set.
 
The Gray Wolves fell behind by four points early in set two only to go on an 18-10 run to build a 21-17 advantage of their own.  Lourdes had four set points but Rio Grande fought them all off and scored the final three points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
In the third set it was Lourdes that battled back for the win.  Trailing 21-16, the Gray Wolves scored seven of the next eight points to take the lead and extended the match.
 
The fourth and final set was close throughout, with 18 ties and seven lead changes.  Lourdes led 21-20 only to see Rio Grande score the final five points to register the victory.
 
Alex Phillips hit .536 and had 17 kills to lead Rio Grande while Autumn Snider added 16 kills.  Chandler Brown had a team-high 14 digs for the Red Storm.
 
Lourdes (11-9) and Rio Grande (8-12) will return to action on Saturday afternoon at Owens CC to conclude the two-match weekend series.  First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
