Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes heads into a pivotal week in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play as just three league matches will remain for each school following this weekend. The Gray Wolves look to continue climbing the conference standings in the hopes of hosting a first round WHAC tournament match. Lourdes will host Lawrence Tech to begin the week on Wednesday evening before battling Siena Heights in Adrian, Mich. on Friday night.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 59-65 (.476) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his sixth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 79-100 (.441) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 7-0 all-time against Lawrence Tech in a series that dates back to Sept. 17, 2011. Lourdes has won three of the matches in straight sets and the other four in four sets. The Gray Wolves won the earlier meeting this season against the Blue Devils 25-15, 25-21, 25-23 on Sept. 4 in Southfield, Mich. Lourdes is 3-0 against Lawrence Tech all-time at Tam-o-Shanter. Lourdes is 5-4 all-time against Siena Heights and Friday's 10th meeting between the two schools will mark the most against a single opponent in Gray Wolves' history. Lourdes has won the last two meetings in five sets, including earlier this season on Aug. 28 at Tam-o-Shanter. The Saints have won two of the three previous meetings in Adrian, Mich. though.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes posted a 2-1 record last week and picked up another key WHAC victory. The Gray Wolves rallied on Wednesday night after dropping the opening set to defeat Marygrove on the road in five sets, winning 15-10 in the fifth.
Stephanie Richards tallied 14 kills and 18 digs in the victory. The Gray Wolves hosted Rio Grande in a two-match series over the weekend at Owens Community College. The Red Storm won Friday night's match in four sets.
Keyonna Gregory had 16 kills and hit .583 for the Gray Wolves though. Lourdes bounced back on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Rio Grande. Richards had 20 kills while Gregory had 14 kills and hit .500.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils enter the week still in search of their first WHAC victory of the season. Lawrence Tech has lost 11 straight matches dating back to the first of September after falling in three sets on Sunday afternoon at Indiana-East. Mary Armstrong leads the Blue Devils offensively with 175 kills and a .252 hitting percentage on the year while Josie Queary has handed out 416 assists. Cassidy Porta has registered 262 digs this season while Armstrong is also the team's blocking leader with 35.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints have dropped five straight matches after falling in all four contests at the Big Gun classic last weekend. Siena Heights had won five straight matches prior to the current losing skid. The Saints play at Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes on Friday. Brianna Baker leads the Saints with 201 kills on the season while Carly Tillotson has handed out 509 assists. Nicole Morgan is the team leader with 335 digs this year while Chelsea Doyle has registered 42 blocks.
Alternating Results: Lourdes has alternated wins and losses over its last 10 matches over the last month. The Gray Wolves have not won back-to-back matches since a three-match winning streak Sept. 6-7 in Georgetown, Ky. but at the same time have only lost back-to-back contests twice, most recently to Madonna and Cornerstone Sept. 11 and 18.
Doubling Up: Lourdes players tallied a total of five double-doubles last weekend after having registered just 13 total entering the week.
Stephanie Richards had a pair of double-doubles at Marygrove and in Saturday's match against Rio Grande in which she tallied 20 kills, a season high for any Gray Wolf. Allegra Recknagal and
Angie Pagan-Perez each tallied double-doubles against Rio Grande as well while
Lexie Curtis posted one at Marygrove.
Assist Record: Allegra Recknagel handed out 57 assists in Saturday's victory over Rio Grande, setting a new single match record for the Gray Wolves. She broke Hannah Thompson's 2011 record of 54 helpers set at Michigan-Dearborn in a five-set contest.
Putting Down the Kills: Stephanie Richards recorded a career-high 20 kills on Saturday in the victory over Rio Grande. Her kill total was the third highest in school history, just two shy of
Katie McKenty's school record set last season against Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Jimenez Becomes Career Digs Leader: Michi Jimenez registered 64 digs over the three matches last weekend and is Lourdes new career record holder in that category. The sophomore has 729 career digs, six more than Hannah Thompson's mark set from 2010-2011.
Swinging Well: Keyonna Gregory tallied 30 kills on 50 swings while committing just three errors in the two matches against Rio Grande. She hit .520 on the weekend and leads Lourdes for the season swinging at a .266 clip.
Captains Named: Allegra Recknagel and
Alyssa Pelish have been selected as team captains for the 2013 season. Recknagel will be a captain for the second straight year, making her just the second two-time captain in program history. Hannah Thompson was a team captain in both 2010 and 2011.
This and That: Angie Pagan-Perez tallied a season-high 17 kills against Rio Grande on Saturday ...
