Lourdes Posts Four-Set Victory over Lawrence Tech

Box Score
Lourdes women's volleyball team has notched back-to-back wins for the first time in more than a month after posting a 25-16, 25-27, 25-12, 25-19 victory over Lawrence Tech on Wednesday evening at Tam-o-Shanter.

With the victory, the Gray Wolves improve to 8-0 all-time against the Blue Devils and improve to a perfect 12-0 on the year when winning the opening set of the match.

"It's always good to get a win," head coach Greg Reitz stated.  "We started the match off well, even though our passing was not as clean as it has been in previous matches and I think that hurt our offense a bit."

Lourdes hit .370 in the first set victory without committing an attack error in 27 swings while registering 10 kills.  Allegra Recknagel (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion H.S.) served five straight points to give Lourdes an early 6-1 lead, an advantage that would eventually grow to 21-13 on the way to the win.

Lawrence Tech would rebound in the second set, one that would see 13 ties and eight lead changes.  The Blue Devils hit .318 themselves with just one error against 15 kills to offset a .314 hitting set by Lourdes.  The Gray Wolves led 20-16 in the set before a late 7-2 run by the visitors proved to be the difference.

In the third set, Lourdes trailed 6-3 before taking control.  Alyssa Pelish (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) served five straight points as part of a 6-0 run while Stephanie Richards (Toledo, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) and Angie Pagan-Perez (Toa Baja, P.R./Bayamon Military Academy) would both spearhead 5-0 runs behind the service line.

"We served well all night," Reitz added.

Richards served the first four points of the final set as well as Lourdes would never trail in the stanza.  The Gray Wolves held the Blue Devils to -.029 hitting, the second straight negative set by Lawrence Tech, to secure the victory.

Pagan-Perez led Lourdes with 10 kills while Richards added nine kills and 15 digs.  Michi Jimenez (Vega Baja, P.R./Juan Quirindongo Morell H.S.) added 13 digs while Recknagel posted a double-double with 18 assists and 12 digs.

"We have to be ready to go on Friday night," Reitz concluded.  "We have a big road  match on our hands."

Mary Armstrong led Lawrence Tech (3-16, 0-7 WHAC) with 13 kills while Kelsey Haener had a match-high 16 digs for the Blue Devils.

Lourdes (13-9, 3-4) will take to the road on Friday evening for another key WHAC contest in Adrian, Mich.  The Gray Wolves will face Siena Heights beginning at 7 p.m. in the Fieldhouse.
