Lourdes University needed just one hour and six minutes on Wednesday evening to complete a 25-9, 25-16, 25-15 sweep of Michigan-Dearborn at Tam-o-Shanter, and assure the Gray Wolves of a home match in the first round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament which begins in three weeks.

The Gray Wolves win, coupled with a Concordia (Mich.) loss, clinched at least eighth place in the conference standings, and teams in fifth through eighth place will entertain the ninth through 12
th seeds on Nov. 13 in the opening round of the tournament.

Lourdes racked up eight service aces and did not register a reception error in the match while holding the Wolverines to just .020 hitting on the night. Lourdes hit .244 as a team and outdug Michigan-Dearborn 52-31 for the night.

"Serving won us the match," head coach
Greg Reitz stated after the match. "Our solid passing also helped us hit more efficiently and we played good defense throughout the night."

In the opening set Lourdes scored 18 of the final 22 points to build an early lead in the match. The Gray Wolves committed just two errors in the opening set while hitting .391 while holding the Wolverines to just a .034 clip.

Set two was tied at 11 until
Angie Pagan-Perez (Toa Baja, P.R./Bayamon Military Academy) served six consecutive points, taking advantage of four Michigan-Dearborn errors in addition to registering an ace. The Gray Wolves then closed the set scoring six of the final seven points.

The final set was also close until the end when Pagan-Perez served out the final eight points, capping the contest with her third ace of the night. The Gray Wolves again were strong defensively, holding the Wolverines to a -.024 attack percentage.

Sam Dibert (Hartland, Mich./Hartland H.S.) and
Keyonna Gregory (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) led the way for Lourdes with eight kills each while
Allegra Recknagel (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion H.S.) handed out 30 assists while adding 10 digs.Â
Michi Jiminez (Vega Baja, P.R./Juan Quirindongo Morell H.S.) posted a match-high 18 digs as well.

"Allegra did a great job setting for us tonight and Michi had a great match averaging six digs per set," Reitz added.

Danielle Campbell led Michigan-Dearborn (7-26, 1-8 WHAC) with six kills while Emily Tjapkes and Danielle Horvath each had eight digs.

Lourdes (14-10, 4-5) will head to Mishawauka, Ind. on Friday evening, stepping out of conference play to face Bethel (Ind.). First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
