Lourdes volleyball struggled offensively on Friday evening in its return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action as the Gray Wolves fell 25-16, 25-14, 25-18 to Aquinas at Southview High School in Sylvania, Ohio.
The Saints held Lourdes to negative hitting for the night, -.066, including negative percentages in each of the three sets, as the Gray Wolves committed 29 attack errors for the night. Aquinas, meanwhile, hit .235 in the victory, including a .393 clip in the opening set.
Runs of 6-2 and 5-1 during the opening set allowed the Saints to take an early lead in the match while Aquinas never trailed in the second set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. In the final set Lourdes was within three, 17-15, before six straight points gave the guests the breathing room they would need in the win.
Keyonna Gregory (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) led Lourdes with seven kills and five blocks while
Lexie Curtis (Toledo, Ohio/Bedford H.S.) handed out 16 assists. Defensively,
Michi Jimenez (Vega Baja, P.R./Juan Quirindongo Morrell H.S.) led the Gray Wolves with 10 digs.
MacKenzie Kolstad led Aquinas (8-5, 3-3 WHAC) with eight kills while Nicci Thomas added six kills, 18 assists, seven digs, and hit .750. Rachel Sprenger led all players with 12 digs for the Saints.
Lourdes (10-8, 1-4) will return to action on Wednesday evening, traveling to Marygrove for another WHAC tilt. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at UD Jesuit High School in Detroit, Mich.
