Lourdes Hosts Marygrove in WHAC Tournament Wednesday

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Volleyball's postseason gets underway on Wednesday evening as the first round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament comes to Tam-o-Shanter.  Seventh-seeded Lourdes enters the tournament having won three straight matches and seven of their last night overall and will face 10th-seeded Marygrove.

Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench, Greg Reitz has a 65-67 (.492) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In his sixth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 84-101 (.454) career mark.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

On the Air: Wednesday's match against Marygrove will be broadcast on BCSN and BCSN2 on Buckeye Cablesystem.  The match will be shown on BCSN on Wednesday night at 11 p.m., tape-delayed, as well as on Thursday at 12:30 p.m.  In addition, BCSN2 will show the match on Thursday at 3:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. as well as on Friday at 5 a.m.

Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 9-0 all-time advantage against Marygrove including a 2-0 mark at Tam-o-Shanter.  The Gray Wolves this year's earlier meeting in five sets on Oct. 9 in Detroit, Mich.  Lourdes won last year's lone meeting between the schools as well as two meetings in 2011.  The Gray Wolves downed the Mustangs five times in 2010.

Earlier This Season: Lourdes defeated Marygrove in a thrilling five-set match on Oct. 9 in Detroit by the scores of 24-26, 32-30, 25-20, 17-25, 15-10.  Stef Comte led Lourdes with 15 kills while Stephanie Richards added 14 more for the Gray Wolves.  Michi Jimenez registered 22 digs.  Amelia Velez led Marygrove with 16 kills in the loss while Kara Kempinski tallied 34 digs.  Nicole Kempinski had 37 assists and 25 digs for the Mustangs.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes closed out the regular season with a 25-16, 24-26, 25-16, 25-10 victory over Concordia (Mich.) last Wednesday at Tam-o-Shanter for the team's third straight victory.  The Gray Wolves hit .236 for the match and was led by Keyonna Gregory who had 20 kills.  Allegra Recknagel added 54 assists and 16 digs in the win.

Scouting Marygrove: The Mustangs enter the postseason having dropped a tight five-set match to Lawrence Tech last Wednesday evening to end the regular season, but has won four of its last six matches overall.  Amelia Velez leads the Mustangs with 339 kills and is hitting .291 on the year while Nicole Kempinski has handed out 969 assists.  Kara Kempinski has a team-leading 711 digs as well as 33 service aces and Kiara Cobbs leads the way for Marygrove with 134 blocks.

Postseason History: Lourdes is competing in the WHAC tournament for the third time in program history, having compiled a 1-3 record all-time in the event.  Last year the Gray Wolves posted a four-set victory at home over Concordia (Mich.) in the first round before falling in three sets to Davenport in the quarterfinals.  In 2011, Lourdes lost both of its matches in pool play by 3-0 scores to Davenport and Northwestern Ohio.

Thanks Seniors: Prior to Wednesday's match, Lourdes will honor its four members of the 2013 senior class.  Ali Mass is the program's first four-year player and is the school's all-time digs leader.  Andrea Brown is the school's career blocks leader while Alyssa Pelish ranks fifth in school history in digs.  Allegra Recknagel is a two-time team captain and is third all-time in assists.

Second Winning Season: Lourdes has secured its second winning season in program history and is three victories shy of the school record for wins in a season.  The Gray Wolves enter the tournament with 18 wins, and trail only the 2010 team which finished the year 21-17.

Climbing the Single Season Charts: As a team Lourdes has set a new school record with 172 blocks this year heading into the conference tournament.  The Gray Wolves also rank second in hitting percentage at .141 (behind 2010, .165).  Lourdes is 68 kills behind second place as a team but just four assists out of second and 37 behind the top spot in that same category.  

Record-Setting Pace: Keyonna Gregory and Stef Comte enter the WHAC tournament atop the school's single season record for hitting percentage.  Gregory enters the week hitting .282 on the year while Comte is connecting at a .265 clip.  The current school mark for hitting percentage with a minimum 100 swings, was .214 set by Brooke Hearn during the 2011 campaign.  

Career Leaders: Ali Mass is the kills record-holder with 710 while Keyonna Gregory's .282 hitting percentage is tops all-time.  Michi Jimenez is the digs record-holder with 857 while Andrea Brown holds the blocking record with 138.  Ali Mass, who has played in the most matches all-time (104) is second with 68 aces while Allegra Recknagel's 1,079 assists also rank second.

Captains Named: Allegra Recknagel and Alyssa Pelish have been selected as team captains for the 2013 season.  Recknagel will be a captain for the second straight year, making her just the second two-time captain in program history.  Hannah Thompson was a team captain in both 2010 and 2011.

This and That: Stephanie Richards' 260 kills are fifth on the single season charts ... Allegra Recknagel needs 40 assists to move into second on the single season list ... Stef Comte, currently fifth with 33 aces, needs two to jump into third place on the single season charts ... Lourdes is 17-0 this season when hitting a better percentage that its opponents ... the Gray Wolves are 17-1 when winning the opening set ... 10 wins at home this season mark a school record.
