Tam-o-Shanter - Sylvania, Ohio

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes University opens the home portion of its 2013 schedule on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain Siena Heights at Tam-o-Shanter.  While both schools are members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, this week's match will be a non-conference tilt between the two foes.

Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench, Greg Reitz has a 49-58 (.458) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In his sixth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 69-93 (.426) career mark.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes and Siena Heights are meeting for the ninth time in a series that is tied 4-4.  Last season the Saints won two of three meetings against Lourdes, beginning with a five-set win in Adrian, Mich. on Aug. 29, 2012.  On Sept. 15 of last year Siena Heights posted a straight sets win as part of the Gray Wolf Invitational before Lourdes won the WHAC contest at home in five sets, snapping a four-match losing skid to the Saints.  The all-time series is tied 2-2 at Tam-o-Shanter.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes opened the 2013 season last weekend splitting four matches at the Michigan-Dearborn Earlybird Challenge.  The Gray Wolves won the opener on Friday against Saint Catharine (Ky.) in four sets behind 18 kills from Katie McKenty.  Grace swept Lourdes in Friday's second match as the Gray Wolves were held to a .000 hitting percentage for the match.  Lourdes fell to Illinois Tech on Saturday morning in four sets, again hitting just .026 before rebounding for a four-set victory over Saint Francis (Ind.) to close out the weekend.  Stephanie Richards led the Gray Wolves with 17 kills in the win.

Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints are opening their 2013 season at Lourdes, having been idle through the first two weekends of play.  Siena Heights posted a 17-11 record overall in 2012 and a 5-6 mark in WHAC play, tying with the Gray Wolves for seventh place in the conference standings.  The Saints return 14 players, including six seniors, from last year's squad.

Looking for the Program's 50th Win: With Lourdes next victory, the Gray Wolves will tally victory number 50 in school history.  Lourdes began women's volleyball in 2010 and has a 49-58 all-time record early in its fourth season of competition.

Gray Wolves Remain Perfect in Season Openers: With Lourdes victory over Saint Catharine (Ky.) last Friday, the Gray Wolves improved to 4-0 all-time in season openers.  Lourdes has yet to play a five-set opener, having won two of the four contests in straight sets and the other two in four sets.

Lourdes in Home Openers: The Gray Wolves are 2-1 all-time in home openers after suffering a three-set loss to #17 Madonna in their home debut in 2012.  Lourdes posted a four-set victory over Ohio State-Marion in its first home match ever back in 2010 while downing Concordia (Mich.) in four sets to open the 2011 home campaign.

Siena Heights a Common Foe: Lourdes will be facing Siena Heights for the ninth time in program history, the most matches the Gray Wolves will have ever played against a single opponent.  Lourdes and Siena Heights are scheduled to meet one more time this season as well on Oct. 18 in Adrian, Mich. as part of WHAC play.  Lourdes has also faced Marygrove eight times entering the 2013 season and will face the Mustangs on the road on Oct. 9.

Lots of New Faces Make Collegiate Debuts: Lourdes has eight freshmen on its roster and six of them made their collegiate debuts last weekend.  Angie Pagan-Perez, Sam Dibert, and Stephanie Richards all appeared in all four matches while Stef Comte and Lexie Curtis played in three of the four contests.  Lauren Norman saw the floor twice during opening weekend.

Recknagel and Richards Record Double-Doubles: Allegra Recknagel notched a pair of double-doubles last Saturday, recording 29 assists and 13 digs against Illinois Tech before recording 25 assists and 16 digs against Saint Francis (Ind.).  The senior now has eight career double-doubles in her two years at Lourdes.  Stephanie Richards also tallied her first collegiate double-double last Saturday with 17 kills and 12 digs in the victory over Saint Francis.

Award Winners Return: Katie McKenty and Michi Jimenez both earned Honorable Mention All Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference honors last season as well as were members of the WHAC All-Freshman Team.  Both return for their sophomore season at Lourdes this year.  McKenty led the Gray Wolves with 376 kills (3.45/set) from the outside last season while adding 241 digs (2.21/set), second most on the squad.   Jimenez started the season setting and handed out 432 assists (3.69/set) before turning to libero where she notched a team-high 448 digs (3.83/set).

Captains Named: Allegra Recknagel and Alyssa Pelish have been selected as team captains for the 2013 season.  Recknagel will be a captain for the second straight year, making her just the second two-time captain in program history.  Hannah Thompson was a team captain in both 2010 and 2011.

Mass Becomes School's First Four-Year Player: Senior Ali Mass became Lourdes first student-athlete in any sport to compete during four different seasons for the Gray Wolves when she appeared in the season opener against Saint Catharine (Ky.).  She has appeared in 89 matches and 263 total sets throughout her career at Lourdes.
