Lourdes Volleyball Hosts Spring Arbor, Aquinas This Week

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes returns home for a pair of matches this week and will be showcased yet again on live television.  The Gray Wolves will step out of conference play on Wednesday evening to host Spring Arbor at Tam-o-Shanter in a match shown live on BCSN.  Lourdes will return to WHAC action on Friday to battle Aquinas in a match that will take place at Sylvania Southview High School.

Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench, Greg Reitz has a 56-63 (.471) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In his sixth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 76-98 (.437) career mark.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

On the Air: Wednesday's match against Spring Arbor will be broadcast live on BCSN on Buckeye Cablesystem.  The match will be replayed on BCSN again at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursday as well as at noon on Friday.  In addition, BCSN2 will show the match on Wednesday night/Thursday morning, tape-delayed, at midnight as well as at 11 a.m. on Thursday and 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 1-0 advantage all-time against Spring Arbor after defeating the Cougars in four sets on Oct. 3, 2012 in Spring Arbor, Mich.   Katie McKenty and Shelby Schuster each had 16 kills for the Gray Wolves in the victory.  Aquinas holds a 2-0 all-time edge against Lourdes dating back to Oct. 7, 2011.  The Saints swept Lourdes 3-0 last season in Grand Rapids, Mich. after winning the initial meeting in five sets in a contest that was held at Sylvania Southview High School.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes opened the week with a four-set victory over Indiana Tech for its first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory of the season.  Keyonna Gregory hit .542 with 14 kills while Stephanie Richards added 13 kills in the victory.  On Friday the Gray Wolves returned to the road and dropped a three-set match at Northwestern Ohio in Lima.  Richards tallied eight kills for Lourdes in the loss, which saw the Racers hit .409 as a team for the match.

Scouting Spring Arbor: The Cougars enter Wednesday night's match having dropped six straight decisions following a five-set loss at Goshen back on Sept. 21.  Alyssa Frees leads Spring Arbor with a .221 hitting percentage along with 164 kills on the season.  She also has a team-leading 42 blocks.  Lyndsay Murray has tallied a team-high 334 digs, ranking 17th in the country with 5.3 digs per set.  Tenille Marowelli has handed out 488 assists for a team hitting .135 on the season.

Scouting Aquinas: The Saints have won six of their last seven matches overall following a 3-0 sweep of Goshen on Saturday.  Aquinas travels to crosstown rival Cornerstone on Wednesday night before heading to face Lourdes on Friday.  Elle Sturgell ranks 30th in the country hitting .336 while MacKenzie Kolstad has tallied a team-leading 77 kills.  Molly Maynard has registered 27 blocks while Rachel Sprenger has tallied 138 digs to place the Aquinas defense.

TV Time: Lourdes is making its third straight Wednesday night appearance on live television courtesy of BCSN.  The Gray Wolves have posted a 1-1 record thus far in front of the masses.

Home Away From Home: Due to scheduling conflicts, Lourdes will be playing three straight "home" matches away from Tam-o-Shanter.  The Gray Wolves will face Aquinas on Friday at Sylvania Southview High School before battling Rio Grande next Friday and Saturday (Oct. 11 and 12) at Owens Community College.  Lourdes has played two matches previously at Southview, posting a 0-2 record in 2011.

Dig Pink: Friday's match against Aquinas will kick off Lourdes "Dig Pink" campaign to raise money for breast cancer and the Sideout Foundation.  The Gray Wolves will wear pink and ask fans to do the same for the match.  Donations will be accepted online in support of the cause through the October 23 match against Michigan-Dearborn.

Going Five: Lourdes is 2-0 this season when going the distance in matches.  In both victories, the Gray Wolves had to win the fourth set to force a decisive fifth set.  Lourdes has won five straight five-set matches dating back to September of 2012 and is 7-1 in five-setters dating back to November of 2011.

Gregory Solid in the Middle: Keyonna Gregory had a stellar week in the middle for Lourdes against Indiana Tech and Northwestern Ohio.  The redshirt-junior tallied a career-high 14 kills against the Warriors while hitting .542.  She ended the week hitting .436 with 19 total kills.

Comte Leads Team in Hitting: Stef Comte leads Lourdes swinging at a .268 rate after posting offensive totals of .375 and .500 last week.  The freshman posted 14 kills and just two errors total in the two matches against Indiana Tech and Northwestern Ohio.

Captains Named: Allegra Recknagel and Alyssa Pelish have been selected as team captains for the 2013 season.  Recknagel will be a captain for the second straight year, making her just the second two-time captain in program history.  Hannah Thompson was a team captain in both 2010 and 2011.

This and That: Lourdes .208 hitting against Indiana Tech was its second-best offensive night of the season ... Lexie Curtis (49 assists, 16 digs), Ali Mass (10 kills, 12 digs), and Stephanie Richards (13 kills, 14 digs) all tallied double-doubles against the Warriors ... Katie McKenty needs five kills for 500 in her career.
