Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes looks to bounce back from a pair of defeats last Saturday as the Gray Wolves wrap up a six-match road trip on Wednesday at Concordia (Mich). Lourdes will begin its final homestand of the season on Saturday, facing Bethel (Ind.) in the team's final non-conference tilt of 2014.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his fifth season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 80-81 (.497) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his sixth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has an 100-116 (.463) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 6-1 all-time against Concordia (Mich.) after posting a four sets victory over the Cardinals back on Sept. 17 at Tam-o-Shanter. The Gray Wolves are 2-1 against Concordia in Ann Arbor, with the Cardinals' lone win coming Oct. 28, 2011 in five sets. Lourdes has won the last four matches in the series. Bethel (Ind.) is 3-1 all-time against Lourdes, but the Gray Wolves won the most recent meeting between the two schools 3-0 on Oct. 25, 2013 in Mishawauka, Ind. This will be Bethel's first visit to Sylvania.
Earlier This Season: Lourdes notched a 25-20, 25-21, 24-26, 25-16 victory over Concordia (Mich.) on Sept. 17 at Tam-o-Shanter.Â
Angie Pagan-Perez had 11 kills and 10 digs while
Stef Comte added 11 kills on .450 hitting.Â
Michi Jimenez tallied 23 digs for the Gray Wolves. Erica den Boer led the Cardinals with nine kills while Hannah Staples tallied 17 digs.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes opened the week with a four-set victory over Lawrence Tech on Wednesday evening in Southfield, Mich.Â
Stephanie Richards tallied 12 kills while
Michi Jimenez added 19 digs. Saturday, the Gray Wolves opened the day pushing 16th-ranked Madonna to five sets before falling 15-10 in the final stanza. Richards tallied 22 kills and 15 digs while
Lisa Urbanski tallied 25 digs. Lourdes wrapped up Saturday, and the week, with a four-set loss at Siena Heights. Richards tallied 24 kills while Jimenez had 29 digs to pace the Gray Wolves.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals have lost nine straight matches following a five-set loss to Rochester (Mich.) at home on Monday night. Autumn VanKirk leads Concordia with 244 kills and a .280 hitting percentage while Claire Truskowski has a team-high 692 assists. Alisha Anderson paces the serving game with 22 aces while Julia Szuba has a team-high 343 digs. VanKirk is also the team's blocking leader with 82 rejections.
Scouting Bethel (Ind.): The snapped a two-match losing skid on Saturday with a five-set victory at Marian. Bethel hosts Spring Arbor on Wednesday and travels to Northwestern Ohio on Friday before visiting Lourdes. Aubrey Husak leads the Pilots with 262 kills while hitting a team-leading .265. Sami Leach has handed out 870 assists, a mark that ranks 33rd in NAIA, while Christina Welch has tallied a team-best 19 service aces. Amanda Troyer has registered 465 digs while Haley Brown has a team-high 86 blocks.
Reitz Earns #100: Head coach
Greg Reitz's recorded the 100th victory of his career as a collegiate women's head coach last Wednesday as the Gray Wolves defeated Lawrence Tech in four sets. He enters this week 100-116 overall, with 80 of his 100 triumphs coming at Lourdes. Reitz previously coached at Saint Joseph's (Ind.) for two seasons.
Richards Sets Kill Mark: Stephanie Richards had quite the Saturday last week in Adrian. The sophomore outside hitter tied the school record for kills in a match with 22 in the Gray Wolves' first match of the day, a five-set contest against 16th-ranked Madonna. Richards then rewrote the record book that afternoon against Siena Heights, slamming down a school-best 24 kills against the Saints.
A New Blocking Mark: Stef Comte passed
Andrea Brown (2012-2013) last Saturday, setting a new school record for blocks in a career. Comte tallied two rejections against Siena Heights after scoring six against Madonna to give her 139 for her career, one more than Brown's total. Comte has been involved in 64 blocks on the season, the fourth most in a single season in program history. Â
Acing the Competition: Lexie Curtis has now tallied 41 service aces this season, matching Hannah Thompson's 2011 single season record. Curtis, who entered the season with just five aces in her career, is sixth on the school's career list as well with 46.
Lots of Floor Time: Michi Jimenez set the school's career sets played record when she stepped onto the floor for the opening set against Siena Heights last Saturday. She has appeared in 318 sets, five more than
Ali Mass (2010-2013). Jimenez ranks second behind Mass having played in 88 career matches. Mass finished her career with 106 total contests played.
Registering Digs: Michi Jimenez tallied 29 digs at Siena Heights on Saturday, the third most in a match in program history.Â
Lisa Urbanski had tallied 25 digs earlier in the day against Madonna, which was the team's previous season high.
Captains: Michi Jimenez,
Mallory Lenhart, and
Carolyn Manley have been named Gray Wolf tri-captains for this season. Jimenez is a junior libero who is a two-time Honorable Mention All-WHAC pick. Lenhart and Manley are both in their first seasons at Lourdes, having transferred to the school in the offseason.
This and That: Lexie Curtis ranks 20th in NAIA averaging 0.53 aces per set and is 33rd overall with 41 total aces ...
