Lourdes Sweeps Siena Heights for Fifth Straight Victory

Box Score Lourdes took to the road for the first time in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Friday evening, and posted its fifth straight victory overall with a 25-10, 25-21, 25-17 sweep of Siena Heights at the Fieldhouse in Adrian, Mich.

The Gray Wolves have won 15 consecutive sets and remain one of just three unbeaten teams in WHAC play while winning seven of their last eight matches overall.

Lexie Curtis (Toledo, Ohio/Bedford H.S.) served up two aces as part of a match-opening 10-0 run by the Gray Wolves and Lourdes eventually opened up a 17-3 lead.  Lourdes hit .520 with 15 kills and just two errors in the opening stanza with Stephanie Richards (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) putting down five kills in seven swings.  The Saints, meanwhile, hit -.100 with just five opening set kills.

The second set was tight most of the way, with the Gray Wolves holding just a slim 16-15 advantage before a 7-1 run behind the serving of Angie Pagan-Perez (Toa Baja, P.R./Bayamon Military Academy) and Lisa Urbanski (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame H.S.) put Lourdes on top 23-16.  The Gray Wolves hit .243 in the set behind four kills from both Pagan-Perez and Katie McKenty (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame H.S.).

Siena Heights jumped out to a quick 7-3 lead in the third set before Lourdes rallied.  A 12-2 run, in which the Gray Wolves took advantage of numerous Saints attack errors, put Lourdes on top 15-9, an advantage they would not surrender the rest of the way.  Richards and McKenty each put down four kills in the stanza as Lourdes again held Siena Heights to negative hitting (-.094).

Richards posted a team-high 11 kills and hit .450 while McKenty added 10 kills on 17 swings without a miscue to hit .588 for the Gray Wolves, which hit .316 as a team.  Curtis handed out a team-high 18 assists while adding nine digs and the two aces.  Michi Jimenez (Vega Vaja, P.R./Juan Quirdindongo H.S.) posted a double-double with a match-high 21 digs and 10 assists while Gabby Teifke (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) was involved in five blocks.

Leze Vukaj led Siena Heights (3-4, 0-3 WHAC) with five kills as the Saints were held to a .000 hitting percentage for the match.  Nicole Morgan tallied a team-high 13 digs for the hosts.

Lourdes (7-5, 3-0) will look for its sixth straight win to match a school record on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves return home to host Aquinas.  First serve is set for 1 p.m. at Tam-o-Shanter.
