vs. Concordia (Mich.) (6-5, 1-3 WHAC)
Tam-o-Shanter - Sylvania, Ohio
Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes University will play just one match this week as the Gray Wolves host Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday evening at Tam-o-Shanter. Lourdes will look to bounce back from Saturday afternoon's setback to Aquinas as the Gray Wolves have still won seven of their last nine contests overall.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his fifth season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 75-75 (.500) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his sixth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has an 95-110 (.463) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 5-1 series advantage all-time against Concordia (Mich.) and has won the last three meetings between the two schools. Lourdes posted a four-set win against the Cardinals on Nov. 6, 2013 at Tam-o-Shanter in the last contest between the two schools. The Gray Wolves are 3-0 all-time against Concordia at home, with the Cardinals' lone win coming on Oct. 28, 2011 in five sets in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes opened the week with a 25-13, 27-25, 25-22 home sweep of Lawrence Tech on Wednesday night. The Gray Wolves hit .281 in the contest while
Michi Jimenez tallied 15 digs in the three sets. On Friday night Lourdes rolled to a 25-10, 25-21, 25-17 victory at Siena Heights behind 11 kills from
Stephanie Richards and 10 more from
Katie McKenty. McKenty did not commit an error on the night, hitting .588 for the match. The Gray Wolves' five-match win streak came to an end on Saturday with a 21-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19 loss to Aquinas at home. Lourdes was held to .083 hitting after the opening set in the loss.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals take to the road for just the second time this season after playing 10 of their first 11 matches at home. Concordia has dropped two straight matches and three of its last four overall following 3-0 setbacks to both #25 Davenport and #8 Madonna last weekend. Autumn VanKirk leads the Cardinals with 99 kills on the year and is hitting .303, a mark that ranks in the top-50 nationally. VanKirk also has a team-high 15 aces and 35 blocks. Claire Truskowski has handed out 305 assists while Julia Szuba has registered a team-best 138 digs this year.
A Week of Double-Doubles: After Lourdes recorded just four total double-doubles (two each by
Mallory Lenhart and
Stephanie Richards) over the first 10 matches of the season, the Gray Wolves registered three double-doubles in the last two matches. On Friday at Siena Heights,
Michi Jimenez handed out 10 assists to go along with 21 digs. On Saturday against Aquinas,
Angie Pagan-Perez tallied 10 kills and 14 digs while
Lexie Curtis handed out 24 assists to go along with her 10 digs.
Streaks Ended: Lourdes had won five consecutive matches, its second longest winning streak in school history, prior to the loss against Aquinas on Saturday. The streak began Aug. 30 with a come from behind win against Mount Mercy.  The loss also ended Lourdes consecutive sets won streak. The Gray Wolves won the final three sets against Mount Mercy, then registered four consecutive sweeps before winning the first set against the Saints, running the streak to 16 consecutive sets won before falling in the final three sets.
Serving Up Aces: Lexie Curtis enters the week ranked 18th in the NAIA averaging 0.60 service aces per set. The sophomore setter leads the Gray Wolves with 21 aces while playing in 35 sets. As a freshman, Curtis recorded just five aces total on the season. As a team Lourdes has tallied 72 aces while surrendering just 54 on the year.
A Telling Stat: Offense is important and Lourdes record reflects that. The Gray Wolves are 7-0 this season when hitting a better percentage than their opponents, but are 0-4 on the year when posting worse numbers.
Comte with a Solid Start: Stef Comte is hitting .295 while averaging 1.61 kills per set through the first 13 matches of the season. Her hitting percentage is well above the current school single season record of .271 set by
Keyonna Gregory in 2013.
Richards Posting Big Numbers: Stephanie Richards hit .450 with 11 kills in 20 attempts on Friday night against Siena Heights, tying for the seventh best single match performance (minimum 20 swings) in school history. The sophomore already posted the sixth best effort earlier this year with a .458 hitting night against Saint Francis (Ill.).
Two in the Top Four: Katie McKenty passed Brooke Hearn (2010-2011) earlier this season for second place all-time at Lourdes with 591 career kills. She trails just
Ali Mass (2010-2013) who holds the school mark with 710 career kills.Â
Stephanie Richards also ranks in the top four in kills with 410 in her brief career.
Nearing the Block Record: Stef Comte has already been involved in 31 blocks on the season, moving into second place all-time at Lourdes with 106 for her career. She is just 32 rejections shy of the school mark of 138 set by
Andrea Brown (2012-2013).
Captains Named: Michi Jimenez,
Mallory Lenhart, and
Carolyn Manley have been named Gray Wolf tri-captains for this season. Jimenez is a junior libero who is a two-time Honorable Mention All-WHAC pick. Lenhart and Manley are both in their first seasons at Lourdes, having transferred to the school in the offseason.
This and That: Lourdes set a school record for a four-set match with 193 attack attempts against Aquinas ... all 18 players have seen action this season with only
Michi Jimenez and
Stef Comte playing all 41 sets ... with 1,138 career digs, Jimenez has 415 more digs than any other player in program history.
