Box Score Lourdes University closed out its three-match road trip on Saturday afternoon dropping a 25-20, 25-23, 25-16 decision to Cornerstone at Mol Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich.

"We hit poorly for the second straight day," head coach
Greg Reitz said after the match. "We had way too many errors for any match, nevertheless against a quality opponent such as Cornerstone. We did a good job of limiting them to .129 hitting, but with 37 attack errors we gave them way too may free points."

Lourdes posted a -.043 hitting percentage on Saturday with just 32 kills against 37 errors.Â
Stephanie Richards (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) led the way with 13 kills while hitting .296 for the match.

The opening set was close most of the way, with Lourdes tying the score at 20 before the Golden Eagles scored the final five points, all on Gray Wolf miscues. Set two saw 15 ties and four lead changes before the Gray Wolves went on top 23-22 following a kill from Richards. Cornerstone again responded with the final three points of the stanza to build a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the final set, Lourdes tallied 17 attack errors against just nine kills for a -.174 hitting percentage. Nevertheless, it was an 18-16 contest before Cornerstone scored the final seven points, six of which came via Gray Wolf errors.

Michi Jimenez (Vega Baja, P.R./Juan Quirindongo Morrell H.S.) led all players with 16 digs for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves outdug the Golden Eagles 50-39 for the match.

Megan Newhouse posted a match-high 11 kills for Cornerstone (14-5, 5-3 WHAC) while hitting .30 while Amber Carmean tallied a team-leading nine digs.

Lourdes (9-8, 5-3) will return home to Tam-o-Shanter on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves host Indiana Tech. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
