Lourdes Wins Third Straight with Sweep at Spring Arbor

Box Score Lourdes University's women's volleyball team posted its third straight victory on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 25-8, 25-17, 25-22 victory over Spring Arbor at the SAU Fieldhouse in Spring Arbor, Mich.
 
The Gray Wolves tallied 39 kills in the match while holding the Cougars to just a .071 hitting percentage and 22 total kills on the afternoon.  Lourdes also recorded nine service aces while not surrendering a single one to the hosts.
 
"I thought we had another solid team win," head coach Greg Reitz stated after the victory.  "We hit efficiently while also serving and passing well."
 
Lourdes raced out to the first six points of the match in the opening set and hit .429 in the stanza while committing just one attack error.  Lexie Curtis (Toledo, Ohio/Bedford H.S.) served seven straight points as part of another 8-0 run as the Gray Wolves extended the lead to 17-4 while cruising to the first set victory.  Spring Arbor hit -.077 in the set.
 
In the second set Lourdes built a quick 5-1 lead.  The lead remained four, 15-11 before a 6-1 run by the Gray Wolves extended the advantage to nine on the way to a 2-0 lead in the match.  The Cougars hit just .091 while Lourdes put down 13 kills.
 
The Gray Wolves tallied a match-high 16 kills in the third in what was the tightest set of the night.  Spring Arbor took its first lead in any set at 8-7 before Lourdes rallied to take a 15-11 advantage.  The Gray Wolves were able to manage a two to four point advantage the rest of the set to complete the sweep.
 
Stef Comte (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame H.S.) led the Gray Wolves with a .500 hitting percentage on the day, tallying eight kills without an error.  Angie Pagan-Perez (Toa Baja, P.R./Bayamon Military Academy) added a match-high 11 kills while Curtis handed out 20 assists to go along with four aces.  Curtis and Michi Jimenez (Vega Baja, P.R./Juan Quirindongo Morell H.S.) each had a team-high eight digs as well.
 
Rebekah Kujat led Spring Arbor (1-9) with five kills while Lyndsay Murray registered a match-high 12 digs for the Cougars.
 
Lourdes (5-5) will return home on Wednesday evening for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match against Lawrence Tech.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Tam-o-Shanter.
