#17 Lourdes Looks to Remain Perfect Facing Concordia and Bethel

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: The lone undefeated team in NAIA returns to the floor on Wednesday evening as 17th-ranked Lourdes hosts Concordia (Mich.) in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.  The Gray Wolves step out of conference action for the final time on Friday evening, traveling to Bethel (Ind.) to battle one of the top teams in the Crossroads League.

Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his sixth season on the Lourdes bench, Greg Reitz has a 105-85 (.553) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In his sixth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has an 125-120 (.510) career mark.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

On the Air: Wednesday's match against Concordia (Mich.) will be broadcast live on BCSN on Buckeye Cablesystem.  The game will be re-aired on BCSN at 4 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.  In addition, BCSN2 will show the game Wednesday evening at 11 p.m. as well as on Thursday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Series Notes: Lourdes is 8-1 all-time against Concordia (Mich.) in a series that dates back to Aug. 20, 2010.  The Gray Wolves won the first meeting this season between the two schools in straight sets on Sept. 16 in Ann Arbor, Mich.  Lourdes holds a 4-0 advantage in matches played at Tam-o-Shanter.  The Gray Wolves are 2-3 all-time against Bethel (Ind.) dating back to Aug. 27, 2010.  Lourdes has won the last two meetings between the two schools, including a four-set victory at Tam-o-Shanter last season.  Lourdes won the only previous meeting in the series in Mishawaka, Ind. in 2013.

Earlier This Season: The Gray Wolves hit .396 as a team and got a team-high 13 kills from Stephanie Ruffing in defeating the Cardinals 25-8, 25-17, 25-18 on Sept. 16 in Ann Arbor, Mich.  Molly Shonk added a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs while Stephanie Richards hit .643 with nine kills.  Michi Jimenez tallied 18 digs and Meghan Birr handed out 37 assists for Lourdes.  Autumn VanKirk led Concordia (Mich.) with eight kills while Erica den Boer and Julia Szuba had seven digs each.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes opened the week with a three-set win at home over Lawrence Tech on Wednesday.  Molly Shonk had 12 kills and 13 digs while Stephanie Ruffing tallied 11 kills and 12 digs.  The Gray Wolves downed #22 Madonna in a five-set thriller Saturday morning behind 20 kills from Ave Stout.  Shonk added 15 kills and 15 digs.  Lourdes finished Saturday sweeping Siena Heights as Ruffing had 15 kills and 10 digs.

Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals have dropped seven straight matches after being swept by both Davenport and Aquinas on Saturday.  Autumn VanKirk leads Concordia with 303 kills and is hitting .285 while also registering a team-best 116 blocks.  Claire Truskowski has handed out 675 assists.  Mackenzie Schill has posted a team-best 26 aces while Julia Szuba has tallied 501 digs.  

Scouting Bethel (Ind.): The Pilots had their three-match win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon, falling to Indiana-Kokomo in four sets.  Bethel hosts Taylor on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes.  Zoe Wolfenbarger has tallied a team-high 248 kills this season while Kassandra Williams is hitting a team-best .215 and has registered 88 blocks.  Remi Swoverland has the team lead with 24 aces while Kristen Mitchell has recorded 438 digs.

Moving On Up: Lourdes entered the top-25 poll for the first time ever on Oct. 6, checking in 20th in the national ranking.  Last week (Oct. 13) the Gray Wolves moved into a tie for 19th and this week Lourdes has moved up to 17th in the national poll, the highest ever for the Gray Wolf program.

And Then There Was One: Lourdes enters the week as the lone undefeated in NAIA women's volleyball.  In fact, Mount Vernon Nazarene (24-1) is the only other program with less than two losses this season.

Players of the Week: Meghan Birr was named the WHAC Setter of the Week for the fourth time this season while Ave Stout earned her first WHAC Attacker of the Week honor.  Birr averaged 12.64 assists and 2.18 digs per set last week as Lourdes hit .315 as a team.  Stout hit .483 with 3.27 kills and 0.64 blocks per set in the three victories.

Offense Nation's Best: Lourdes leads all of NAIA hitting .299 as a team.  The Gray Wolves also lead the country in assists at 13.20 per set as well as 14.25  kills per set.  In addition, Lourdes is 11th in aces per set with 2.26.  Individually, Meghan Birr is eighth tallying 11.33 assists per set while Lexie Curtis ranks 14th in NAIA in aces per set with 0.59.  Stephanie Ruffing ranks among the top-40 in hitting percentage (.324, 28th) and kills per set (3.59, 37th) while Michi Jimenez is 34th in the county averaging 5.00 digs per set.

Quick Matches: Lourdes played 13 of its 20 matches in less than one hour and 15 minutes this season, with four contests lasting less than 60 minutes.  The quickest contest of the year came in the opener, a 50-minute affair against Governors State.  The Gray Wolves have dropped just nine sets all season, leading to the speedy match times.

This and That: The Gray Wolves are a perfect 20-0 in the second set this season ... Lourdes has outdug all 20 opponents thus far this year ... Lourdes has defeated a pair of top-25 opponents ... Molly Shonk leads the team with 10 double-doubles, including three straight last week ... Lourdes hit .402 as a team against Siena Heights on Saturday, the fourth time this year the Gray Wolves hit higher than .400 ... Lourdes has hit below .200 just once all season (Indiana Tech, Sept. 30, .192).
