20th-Ranked Gray Wolves Host Marygrove Wednesday Night

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Having earned a national ranking in the NAIA top-25 poll for the first time in program history, the 20th-ranked Gray Wolves continue their three-match homestand on Wednesday night as Lourdes entertains Marygrove.

Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his sixth season on the Lourdes bench, Greg Reitz has a 101-85 (.543) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In his sixth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has an 121-120 (.502) career mark.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes is 13-0 all-time against Marygrove in a series that dates back to Aug. 20, 2010.  The Gray Wolves won the first meeting this season between the two schools in straight sets to open WHAC play in Detroit, Mich. on Sept. 2.  Lourdes holds a 4-0 advantage in matches played at Tam-o-Shanter, having dropped just one set in the process to the Mustangs.

Earlier This Season: The Gray Wolves opened WHAC play at Marygrove on Sept. 2, coming away with a 25-11, 25-14, 25-15 victory over the Mustangs.  Stephanie Ruffing tallied 13 kills and Stephanie Richards recorded 12 digs for the Gray Wolves.  As a team, Lourdes hit .344 for the match.  Ashley Murphy and Hailey Brandes led Marygrove with five kills each while Erica Wilson tallied 10 digs for the Mustangs.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes opened the week with a three-set victory on the road at Indiana Tech.  Stephanie Richards tallied a team-high 11 kills while Michi Jimenez registered 29 digs for the Gray Wolves.  The road trip continued on Friday as Lourdes defeated Davenport in four sets.  Stephanie Ruffing hit .485 with 17 kills while Molly Shonk had 11 kills and 21 digs.  Meghan Birr handed out 47 assist for the Gray Wolves.  The week concluded on Saturday with a three-set sweep of 15th-ranked Madonna at Tam-o-Shanter.  Richards had 11 kills, Birr tallied 40 assists, and Jimenez had 21 digs for the Gray Wolves in the triumph.

Scouting Marygrove: The Mustangs enter the match having lost six straight contests following a 3-0 setback a Aquinas on Saturday.  Marygrove will be playing their fourth of five straight road matches on Wednesday at Lourdes.  Rachel Staudt leads Marygrove with 165 kills and is hitting .274 while Hayley Jury has handed out 517 assists.  Brenna Donnelly leads the Mustangs with 17 service aces while Amber Kelly has a team-high 205 digs.  Alixandria Pappas has notched 39 blocks to pace the Marygrove defense.

First Ranking Ever: Lourdes entered the top-25 poll for the first time ever this week (Oct. 6), checking in 20th in the national ranking.  The Gray Wolves garnered votes for the poll for the first time in last week's (Sept. 29) poll.

Jimenez National Defender of the Week: Michi Jimenez was named the NAIA National Defender of the Week for her efforts in Lourdes' three victories last week.  The senior defender notched 6.70 digs per set as the Gray Wolf libero, committing just one reception error in the three matches.

Trio Sweep WHAC Honor: For the second time this season, Lourdes trio of Stephanie Ruffing, Meghan Birr, and Michi Jimenez have swept the WHAC Player of the Week honors.  Ruffing hit .302 while averaging 3.70 kills per set to be named Attacker of the Week while Birr handed out 11.60 assists per set on her way to Setter of the Week honors.  Jimenez earned Defender of the Week honors which led to her national selection.

Reaching 100: Lourdes earned its 100th victory in program history last Friday night in the four-set win at Davenport.  Head coach Greg Reitz has been on the Gray Wolves' bench for all 101 of the Gray Wolf victories.

Dropping Sets a Rarity This Season: Lourdes has lost just seven total sets all season, and had their 18 consecutive sets won streak snapped at Davenport on Friday.  The Gray Wolves have dropped sets to just five teams all year, with only Saint Xavier and Aquinas forcing Lourdes to a fifth set.

Beating a Ranked Team: Lourdes with over 15th-ranked Madonna marked the first time the Gray Wolves had ever defeated a top-25 foe at home.  All-time Lourdes is 4-16 against teams ranked in the national poll.

One of the Remaining Unbeatens: Lourdes enters the week one of just six undefeated teams remaining in NAIA.  Joining the Gray Wolves are Evangel (23-0), Viterbo (21-0), Midland (20-0), Mount Vernon Nazarene (19-0), and Biola (15-0).

Offense Nation's Best: Lourdes leads all of NAIA averaging 14.20 kills per set.  The Gray Wolves are second in the country in assists at 13.07 per set while ranking third with a team hitting percentage of .293.  In addition, Lourdes is 17th in aces per set with 2.29.  Individually, Meghan Birr is seventh in NAIA in assists per set with 11.18 while Lexie Curtis is 19th individually tallying 0.65 aces per set.  Michi Jimenez is 28th in the county averaging 5.18 digs per set and Stephanie Ruffing is among the top-50 in kills per set (3.60, 37th) and hitting percentage (.308, 42nd).

This and That: Lourdes has outdug all 16 opponents thus far this year ... Lexie Curtis is six aces shy of 100 for her career ... the Gray Wolves have three hitters with at least 220 attempts hitting .308 or better on the year ... Lourdes has tallied 126 aces this season while opponents have aced the Gray Wolves just 37 times.
