Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: The final week of the 2015 regular season comes to a close this week with Lourdes looking to cap an undefeated campaign with three matches at home. The Gray Wolves host Indiana Tech on Wednesday evening before entertaining Davenport and Aquinas to conclude on Saturday.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his sixth season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 110-85 (.564) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his sixth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has an 130-120 (.520) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 3-5 all-time against Indiana Tech in a series that dates back to Oct. 1, 2010. The Gray Wolves won this year's previous meeting in straight sets in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Sept. 30. Indiana Tech holds a 2-1 series edge in matches played at Tam-o-Shanter. Lourdes is 2-8 all-time against Davenport dating back to Sept. 2, 2011. The Gray Wolves won in four sets earlier this year in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Oct. 2. Davenport is 3-0 against Lourdes all-time at Tam-o-Shanter. Lourdes is 1-5 against Aquinas dating back to Oct. 7, 2011 after earning a five-set win on Sept. 12 in Grand Rapids for the team's first win ever against the Saints. Aquinas won the only previous meeting at Tam-o-Shanter in 2014.
Earlier This Season: The Gray Wolves earned a 25-22, 27-25, 25-16 win on the road over Indiana Tech on Sept. 30 as
Stephanie Richards tallied 11 kills and
Michi Jimenez added 29 digs. Lourdes needed four sets to score a 25-13, 25-16, 18-25, 25-17 victory over Davenport on the road Oct. 2.Â
Stephanie Ruffing had 17 kills for the Gray Wolves while
Molly Shonk added 11 kills and 17 digs. Ruffing had 24 kills and Jimenez tallied 33 digs on Sept. 12 in a 23-25, 25-18, 25-16, 20-25, 15-12 win at Aquinas on Sept. 12.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes needed less than an hour on Wednesday to score a 25-16, 25-12, 25-13 victory at Michigan-Dearborn.Â
Stephanie Richards had 11 kills to lead the way While
Stephanie Ruffing added 10 kills and 11 digs. On Saturday,
Molly Shonk recorded 19 kills and 20 digs in a 23-15, 25-17, 25-11, 25-20 victory over Cornerstone. The Gray Wolves followed that win with a 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 triumph over Northwestern Ohio. Shonk had 15 kills and
Michi Jimenez tallied 13 digs in the victory. Â
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors dropped a pair of matches on Sunday to Madonna and Siena Heights. Cassie Sarabia leads Indiana Tech with 392 kills while Karlie Jones has handled out 689 assists. Taylor Kelso has recorded 674 digs while Gabby Staggs has registered a team-high 114 blocks.
Scouting Davenport: The Panthers enter the week having won four straight matches after sweeping and Marygrove and Lawrence Tech last Saturday. Davenport travels to Madonna on Wednesday before heading to Lourdes. Molly Lameyer leads the Panthers with 411 kills and is hitting .336 while Sami White has handed out a team-leading 717 assists. Morgan Torres has a team-best 474 digs while Ashley Vanderhorst has a team-high 95 blocks.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints enter the week having won six of their last seven matches and head to Siena Heights and face Michigan-Dearborn before playing Lourdes. Michaela Ryan leads Aquinas with 306 kills and a .279 hitting percentage while also recording 85 blocks. Brooke Wieland has handed out 1,065 assists and Kaitlyn Agren has recorded 547 digs.
Thanks Seniors: Lourdes will honor its three seniors prior to Wednesday's match with Indiana Tech.Â
Michi Jimenez and
Shayna Lindley are both four year players with the Gray Wolves while
Mallory Lenhart transferred to Lourdes prior to the 2014 campaign.
Nearing 2,000: Michi Jimenez enters the week just 25 digs shy of 2,000 for her career. The school's leader in the category with 1,975, she holds four of the top five single season totals in program history as well.
Shonk Earns Weekly Honor: Molly Shonk was named the WHAC Attacker of the Week for the first time in her career after averaging 4.4 kills per set while hitting .355 for the Gray Wolves last week. She also added 3.0 digs per set in the three matches.
Wins Record: Lourdes has set the school's single season wins record with their 22nd triumph of the year at Bethel (Ind.). The Gray Wolves surpassed the mark of 21 victories set by the 2010 and 2013 squads.
Poll Update: Lourdes entered the top-25 poll for the first time ever on Oct. 6, checking in 20th in the national ranking. On Oct. 13 the Gray Wolves moved into a tie for 19th and on Oct. 20 Lourdes has moved up to 17th in the national poll, the highest ever for the Gray Wolf program. Last week Lourdes dropped one spot to 18th, where the Gray Wolves remain this week.
And Then There Was One: Lourdes enters the week as the lone undefeated in NAIA women's volleyball. In fact, Mount Vernon Nazarene (29-1) is the only other program with less than three losses this season.
This and That: Lourdes has outdug all 25 opponents this season ... the Gray Wolves have dropped just 11 total sets all season ...
