Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Having won four of their last five matches, Lourdes returns home on Wednesday afternoon to entertain Madonna. The Gray Wolves will then step out of league play for the final time this season on Saturday, traveling to Indiana Wesleyan to meet the Wildcats.
Head Coach Jackie Donovan: In her first season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Donovan has a 4-2-1 (.643) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: As has been a common theme for the Gray Wolves this season, Lourdes has never faced Madonna or Indiana Wesleyan in women's soccer.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Kendyl Christian scored the match-winner in the 27th minute and
Remy Houttekier added a penalty kick goal with just over 11 minutes remaining as Lourdes defeated Cleary 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon.Â
Jada Foster tallied the lone goal of the match with just over two minutes remaining in the half on Saturday and
Erika Brinkman made four saves as the Gray Wolves shutout Davenport 1-0 in the WHAC opener.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders have played just once since Oct. 11, scoring a 3-1 victory over Taylor last Wednesday afternoon. Kelly Capoccia has scored nine times and has 18 total points to lead Madonna offensively while Jessica Witt has a team-leading three assists. Blaire Schmalenberg has played the majority of the minutes in goal, sporting a 0.83 goals against average and a .765 save percentage.
Scouting Indiana Wesleyan: The Wildcats are winless in their last three matches entering the week and but are coming off of a 1-1 draw against seventh-ranked Grace on Saturday evening. Lizzie Rittenhouse has scored five times and has 11 total points while Nicole Biggs has handed out a team-leading three assists. Alex Seabeck has played every minute in goal for Indiana Wesleyan, sporting a 1.31 goals against average and a .707 save percentage.
Brinkman Earns WHAC Honors: Erika Brinkman earned the first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference honor in program history after being named the WHAC Defensive Player of the Week. The senior goalkeeper made six saves over the two matches against Cleary and Davenport while posting a pair of shutouts. For the season, Brinkman has recorded a 0.53 goals against average, an .895 save percentage and four shutouts.
A Good Start to WHAC Play: As Lourdes scored its 1-0 victory over Davenport last Saturday, it marked the first WHAC match ever played in Gray Wolf women's soccer history. After this week's matches, the Gray Wolves will play all eight of their remaining contests within the conference.
Christian Nets First Match-Winner: Kendyl Christian became the first Gray Wolf other than
Jada Foster to earn a match-winning goal, tallying the first goal of the contest against Cleary. Christian's tally was her second of the year, and she enters the week ranked second on the team with five points.
Quite the Goal Scorer: Jada Foster tallied her team-leading fifth goal of the season, which was also her third match-winning tally of the year, on Saturday against Davenport. The freshman enters the week having scored at least one goal in four of her last five matches.
Yet to Fall in Regulation: Lourdes has yet to be defeated in regulation during its young program history. The Gray Wolves have played overtime three times though, having notched one draw and suffered its lone two defeats during the extra session.
Early Leads Yield Positive Results: Lourdes has posted a 3-0 record this season when leading at halftime. The Gray Wolves are also 3-0 on the year when scoring the first goal of the match.
Among the Nation's Leaders: Erika Brinkman ranks sixth in NAIA posting a 0.53 goals against average between the posts for Lourdes. As a team, Lourdes ranks 24th in the country with four shutouts.Â
Jada Foster's three match-winning goals are 12th most in NAIA while she also ranks 33rd in the nation averaging 4.67 shots per contest.
