SYLVANIA, Ohio – Lourdes University's
Samarah Arendsen has been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Defensive Player of the Week in women's soccer following her standout performance in the Gray Wolves' 2-1 win over Lawrence Tech in the conference quarterfinals.
Arendsen was steady in goal throughout the postseason victory, recording five saves to help second-seeded Lourdes advance to the WHAC Semifinals for the second consecutive year. The senior from Zeeland, Mich. (West HS) made a pair of crucial stops in the opening half to preserve a scoreless tie before the Gray Wolves struck twice early in the second half.
Now in her fourth season at Lourdes, Arendsen has compiled 11 wins and nine shutouts this year, leading a defense that ranks among the stingiest in the WHAC. Saturday's victory improved the Gray Wolves to 11-2-1 overall on the season.
Lourdes returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 5, traveling to Madonna University for the WHAC Semifinals in Livonia, Mich. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
