Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: As Lourdes moves into the second to final week of the regular season, the Gray Wolves begin a three-match road trip looking to make a push to earn a berth in the upcoming WHAC tournament. Lourdes heads to Cornerstone on Tuesday evening before visiting Lawrence Tech for a Saturday matinee.
Head Coach Jackie Donovan: In her second season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Donovan has an 11-18-2 (.387) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Cornerstone won the only previous meeting between the two schools, downing the Gray Wolves 3-0 in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Oct. 7, 2015. Kerri Hoffman scored twice and Alexys Riksen added another tally for the Golden Eagles. Lourdes is 1-0 against Lawrence Tech after downing the Blue Devils 4-1 on Oct. 21, 2015 in Southfield, Mich.Â
Kendyl Christian,
Remy Houttekier,
Nichole Miller, and
Jada Foster all found the back of the net for the Gray Wolves in the road win.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes managed just two shot attempts on Wednesday evening while dropping a 3-0 decision on the road to 22nd-ranked Siena Heights. The Gray Wolves trailed just 1-0 at intermission, but an own goal followed by a second tally less than two minutes later in the second half proved to be the difference.Â
Kiley Transit made 12 stops in the loss. On Saturday, Transit made 16 saves in goal for the Gray Wolves, but Lourdes fell to fourth-ranked Northwestern Ohio 7-0 at home. The Racers led 2-0 at halftime but used four goals in 13 minutes to break the match open in the second half.
Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles had their two-match winning streak snapped on Saturday with a 3-0 loss at home against Siena Heights. Bria West leads Cornerstone with six goals and three assists for 15 points while Lexanna Siemaxz had four goals. Morgan Haddad shares the team lead with three assists. Allison Snowden has played a majority of the minutes, carrying a 1.36 goals against average and a .732 save percentage.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils ended a two-match losing skid on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Rochester (Mich.). They head to Concordia (Mich.) Wednesday before hosting Lourdes. Tia Lamie leads the Blue Devils with 11 goals and has 24 total points while Ally Nyboer leads the team with 25 points on eight goals and a team-high nine assists. Heather Derstine has played most of the minutes in goal, carrying a 1.29 GAA and a .792 save percentage.
Chasing a Postseason Berth: Lourdes heads into the penultimate week of the regular season just three points (one win) behind seventh, eighth, and ninth places in the WHAC standings, with the top eight teams qualifying for postseason play. The Gray Wolves are playing Cornerstone, one of the teams just ahead of Lourdes, this week, and Concordia (Mich.) next Saturday (Oct. 29), in the season finale, so there is plenty of potential to reach the conference tournament.
Transit Has Record-Setting Week: Despite a pair of losses,
Kiley Transit had a record-setting week in goal for the Gray Wolves. The redshirt-freshman tied
Cassie Glovier's school record for saves in a match with 12 on Wednesday evening at Siena Heights. Transit then broke the record three days later, making 16 stops on Saturday in the setback to Northwestern Ohio. Her 76 saves on the season are 20 shy of
Erika Brinkman's 2015 mark of 96 on the Gray Wolves' single season chars.
Closing Out the Home Slate: Lourdes will wrap up the home portion of the regular season on Saturday against Northwestern Ohio, looking to move over .500 all-time at Wildcat Stadium. The Gray Wolves are 7-7-1 all-time on their home pitch, including a 3-3-1 mark this season. Lourdes will close the regular season with three road matches following Saturday's contest.
Other Individual Records: Though this is just year two of women's soccer at Lourdes, the Gray Wolves have continued to rewrite the record books in 2016.Â
Clare Ciarlino has broken
Jada Foster's 2015 mark for points in a season by one, having recorded 15 thus far this year. In addition, Ciarlino has tied
Remy Houttekier's school mark with three assists this year.
Team Records Have Been Broken as Well: As a team Lourdes has bettered some of the scoring marks set last year as well. The Gray Wolves have scored 23 goals, eight more than the 2015 record, while handing out 11 assists, two more than the previous mark. The 57 total points are 18 more than the Gray Wolves registered one season ago. In addition, the shots record is on the verge of being broken, as Lourdes needs just 10 more attempts to match the 2015 mark of 188.
Mixing Up the Lineup: Lourdes has had 17 different players draw at least one starting assignment already this season. In fact, only
Kiley Transit,
Halee Roberts,
Tori Koontz, and
Karlie O'Keefe have been on the pitch to begin all 13 matches. In addition, only a total of seven players have stepped onto the field in all 13 contests.
Captains Named: Remy Houttekier,
Tara Blundell,
Kendyl Christian, and
Hayley Wagner are serving as the team's captains for the 2016 season. Houttekier is in her second season serving in the leadership role while Blundell, Christian, and Wagner are in year one.
This and That: Lourdes has never won an overtime contest in program history, going 0-4-2 when playing more than 90 minutes ... 10 different Gray Wolves have scored at least one goal this season and 13 different players have registered at least one point ... Lourdes is still looking for its first victory away from home in 2016.
