Women's Soccer Season Opens at Home Versus MVNU and Andrews

Complete PDF Notes
Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes University opens its second season of women's soccer on Tuesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves entertain Mount Vernon Nazarene at Wildcat Stadium.  Lourdes will remain at home on Friday for another non-conference tilt, welcoming Andrews to town.

Head Coach Jackie Donovan: In her second season on the Lourdes bench, Jackie Donovan has an 8-9-1 (.472) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach.  She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes has never faced Mount Vernon Nazarene or Andrews on the pitch in women's soccer.

Wrapping Up 2015: Lourdes finished its inaugural season with an 8-9-1 record overall.  The Gray Wolves finished in a tie for sixth place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with a 5-5 mark.  Lourdes fell to Siena Heights in the quarterfinals of the WHAC tournament.

Scouting Mount Vernon Nazarene: The Cougars opened the season splitting a pair of contests.  Mount Vernon Nazarene defeated SCAD Savannah at home 1-0 before dropping a 3-1 decision to second-ranked Lindsey Wilson last Tuesday.  Allison Paley has a goal and an assist this season while Regina Rudder has also found the back of the net.  Amberly Knox has an assist for the Cougars.  In goal, Madi Moore and Ashley Flautt have each played 90 minutes this season.  Moore has made five saves and has yet to surrender a goal while Flautt has a 3.00 goals against average and has made four stops.

Scouting Andrews: The Cardinals open their season on Monday with a trip to Jackson before heading to Lourdes.  Last year Andrews posted a 3-4-1 record but do not return any of their goal scorers from one year ago.  Whitney Wright returns in goal though, having played a majority of the team's minutes in net last season where she posted a 3.71 goals against average and a .698 save percentage.

Lourdes in Openers: Lourdes battled Rochester (Mich.) to a scoreless draw in its only previous opener to begin the 2015 season on the road.  The Gray Wolves won their only previous home opener though, defeating Bluffton 1-0 at Wildcat Stadium.

Scoring Leaders: Jada Foster led Lourdes in scoring during the 2015 season, tallying seven goals, including four match-winners, for 14 points.  Kendyl Christian (three goals) and Remy Houttekier (three assists) each had seven points.

Lots of Experience: Tara Blundell, Kendyl Christian, Kayla Lehmann, and Hayley Wagner return after starting all 17 matches last season.  Lexie Cano, Remy Houttekier, Helena Rammal, and Alyssa Swanson appeared in all 17 contests as well.

A New Look in Goal: Lourdes has a pair of goalkeepers that will be making their collegiate debuts this season.  Kiley Transit sat out 2015 as a redshirt with an injury while Klarissa Wegner is a true freshman.  They look to replace Erika Brinkman, who played all but 90 minutes between the posts last season.

New Faces: Lourdes has 11 newcomers among the 24 players on this year's roster.  Eight true freshmen join two transfers while Reagan Boice joins the program after playing basketball during her first year on campus.

Returning Honorees: Jada Foster garnered Honorable Mention All-WHAC accolades as well as was named to the All-Ohio Team during the program's inaugural season.  In addition, Remy Houttekier was named to the league's Champions of Character Team.

Captains Named: Remy Houttekier, Tara Blundell, Kendyl Christian, and Hayley Wagner will serve as the team's captains during the 2016 season.  Houttekier is in her second season serving in the leadership role while Blundell, Christian, and Wagner are all in year one.

This and That: Lourdes went 0-2-1 when playing overtime in its first season ... the Gray Wolves shut out six opponents and were blanked nine times ... only three matches last year saw both schools score a goal ... Lourdes high for goals in a match in 2015 was four at Lawrence Tech.
