Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes will look for its Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory of the season this week, playing a pair of league matches. The Gray Wolves entertain Aquinas on Wednesday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium before taking to the road on Saturday for a noon contest at Indiana Tech.
Head Coach Jackie Donovan: In her second season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Donovan has an 10-13-2 (.444) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Aquinas leads the all-time series against Lourdes 1-0 after notching a 3-0 victory Oct. 28, 2015 at Wildcat Stadium. The Saints tallied all three goals in the final 28 minutes of the second half for the win. Lourdes leads the all-time series with Indiana Tech 1-0 after posting a 2-0 victory at Wildcat Stadium on Oct. 10, 2015.Â
Jada Foster and
Jessica Grindle scored the goals for the Gray Wolves while
Erika Brinkman made 10 saves to earn the shutout. This will mark Lourdes' first trip to Fort Wayne, Ind.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Karlie O'Keefe scored a pair of goals on Saturday afternoon, but Davenport notched the match-winner with 23:28 remaining to defeat the Gray Wolves 3-2 at Wildcat Stadium in the WHAC opener for each school.Â
Kiley Transit made five saves for Lourdes in the loss as the Gray Wolves were outshot 19-10 in the contest.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints had their two-match winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 3-0 loss at fourth-ranked Northwestern Ohio. Jessica Parry leads Aquinas with 10 points on the year, having scored four goals while handing out a pair of assists. Mariah Otolski has also scored four times for the Saints while Emily Rinehart leads the team with three assists. In goal, Kylie Robb and Isabella Buck have combined to start all but one match this season. Robb sports a 0.84 goals against average and has a .786 save percentage while Buck carries a 1.30 GAA and a .750 save mark.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors have dropped four straight matches and are winless in their last six contests after falling 2-1 at Concordia (Mich.) on Friday afternoon. Jessica Zurcher leads Indiana Tech with eight points on the year, having scored three times while adding a pair of assists. In goal, Tailer Roscoe has played every minute for the Warriors, and carries a 1.89 goals against average and a .727 save percentage. Indiana Tech will have had eight days off prior to hosting Lourdes on Saturday.
A Familiar Net: Karlie O'Keefe scored her first two collegiate goals on Saturday, keeping the Gray Wolves close in the match with Davenport. The freshman had to feel right at home though, as the Sylvania native played also played at Wildcat Stadium last year for Northview High School where she was a First Team All-Northern Lakes League selection for the Wildcats.
Multiple Goals for Multiple Players: Jada Foster was the only Gray Wolf to score two goals in a match last season, but Lourdes players have repeatedly found the back of the net this year.Â
Karlie O'Keefe became the fourth different player, to score two or more goals in a contest already this year, and marked the fifth time it has been done already this season.Â
Clare Ciarlino has a pair of two-goal contests,
Reagan Boice has scored twice this year, and
Isabelle Karamuco tallied a school-record three goals against Andrews.
Scoring Goals in Bunches: Last season Lourdes managed to score two or more goals as a team in a match just four times. Already this year Lourdes has tallied two or more goals in four of the team's seven contests after finding the back of the net twice on Saturday against Davenport.
Among the NAIA Leaders: Lourdes ranks 43rd in all of the NAIA averaging 2.57 goals per match this season. The Gray Wolves have found the back of the net a school-record 18 times already in 2016 after tallying just 15 total goals during the inaugural 2015 campaign.
Ciarlino Continues to Hold Scoring Lead, Ranks Among NAIA Leaders: Freshman
Clare Ciarlino continues to lead the Gray Wolves offensively. The Lourdes rookie has scored five times and added two assists for 12 total points, and her 2.0 points per match rank 39th among all NAIA players. She is two goals, one assist, and two points shy of tying the school's single season record in each of the three categories.
Mixing Up the Lineup: Lourdes has had 17 different players draw at least one starting assignment already this season. In fact, only
Kiley Transit,
Halee Roberts,
Tori Koontz, and
Karlie O'Keefe have been on the pitch to begin all seven matches. In addition, only a total of nine players have stepped onto the field in all seven contests.
Captains Named: Remy Houttekier,
Tara Blundell,
Kendyl Christian, and
Hayley Wagner are serving as the team's captains for the 2016 season. Houttekier is in her second season serving in the leadership role while Blundell, Christian, and Wagner are in year one.
This and That: Tori Koontz handed out her second assist of the season against Davenport, sharing the team lead in that statistical category with
Clare Ciarlino and
Lexie Cano ... Lourdes has never won an overtime contest in program history, going 0-3-2 when playing more than 90 minutes ... following the match with Aquinas, the Gray Wolves will be halfway through the regular season schedule ... every Lourdes player (except goalkeepers) that have stepped on the pitch have at least one shot attempt this season.
