Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes reaches the midway point of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play this week, looking to snap a three-match losing skid. The Gray Wolves host Siena Heights on Wednesday afternoon before traveling to nationally-ranked Northwestern Ohio on Saturday for their final road match of the regular season.
Head Coach Jackie Donovan: In her third season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Donovan has a 16-26-3 (.389) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Siena Heights holds a 3-0 lead all-time in the series against Lourdes dating back to Oct. 31, 2015. Last season the Saints scored a 3-0 victory over the Gray Wolves in Adrian, Mich. The only previous meeting between the two schools at Wildcat Stadium came in the initial match, a 3-0 win by Siena Heights. Northwestern Ohio is 2-0 all-time against Lourdes dating back to Oct. 14, 2015. The Racers downed the Gray Wolves 7-0 last season at Wildcat Stadium. The first meeting between the two schools was the only one ever played in Lima, Ohio, a 2-0 Northwestern Ohio win.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Madonna jumped in front less than four minutes into the match, built a 3-0 halftime lead, and defeated the Gray Wolves 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Livonia, Mich. The Crusaders outshot Lourdes 21-9 for the match, with
Kiley Transit making two first half saves and
Kerstyn Williams making five second half stops.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints are unbeaten (2-0-1) in their last three matches, and have won two straight overall after defeating Michigan-Dearborn 6-0 on Saturday afternoon. Siena Heights has had balanced scoring, with 19 players recording at least one point. Kathryn Gordon leads the team with four goals while Samantha Bartelotti has handed out a team-high four assists while leading the Saints with 10 total points. Meghan Bogg has played most of the minutes in goal, posting a 0.95 goals against average and an .846 save percentage.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers enter the week having won six straight matches after defeating Concordia (Mich.) 2-0 on Saturday. Northwestern Ohio travels to Indiana Tech on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes. Evdokia Popadinova leads the Racers with 33 points, having scored 12 times while adding nine assists. Camilla Anderson has added 11 goals. Between the posts, Romane Salvador has played every minute, recording a 0.32 GAA and a .905 save percentage.
Facing Ranked Foes: When Lourdes travels to Northwestern Ohio on Saturday, they will be facing their second NAIA top-25 opponent of the season and seventh in program history. The Gray Wolves fell earlier this season at home 6-0 to Taylor, who was ranked 22nd nationally. Lourdes is still looking for its first goal all-time against a nationally-ranked opponent.
Midway Through WHAC Play: Wednesday's match will mark the halfway point in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play for the Gray Wolves this season. Lourdes is currently tied with Aquinas for the eighth and final WHAC tournament spot, but trails seventh place Lawrence Tech by just one point in the league standings. The top six teams in the WHAC standings all have played one more match that the bottom five schools at this point.
Koontz Sets Single Season Assist Mark: Tori Koontz has been credited with five helpers on the year, setting a new school single season assist mark. She broke the record of four previously set by teammate
Clare Ciarlino in 2016, a mark Ciarlino has also matched this season. Koontz and Ciarlino share the school's career assist record with eight entering play this week.
Williams Adds to Save Totals: Kerstyn Williams has had a solid rookie season between the posts for the Gray Wolves this year. The freshman has now made a total of 52 stops on the year, third most on the single season charts in program history. Williams has a 1.53 goals against average on the year along with an .825 save percentage.
Rammal and Swanson Lead All-Time Matches Played: Helena Rammal and
Alyssa Swanson currently rank first and second all-time at Lourdes in matches played. Both have appeared in 10 of the 11 contests this year, with Rammal having played in 42 total matches during her three years with the Gray Wolves while Swanson has entered the field 40 times.
Closing Out the Road Slate: Lourdes will play its final road match of the season on Saturday at Northwestern Ohio. The Gray Wolves are 2-3 away from Wildcat Stadium thus far this year. Lourdes will play its final four matches of the year at home, where the Gray Wolves have posted a 3-2-1 record this season and are 10-10-2 all-time.
Captains Named: Remy Houttekier,
Tara Blundell, and
Kiley Transit will serve as the team's captains during the 2017 season. Houttekier is in her third season serving in the leadership role while Blundell is a team captain for the second time. Transit is a first time team captain.
