Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: For the second time in program history, Lourdes will host a NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship Opening Round match, as the Gray Wolves entertain Webber International on Saturday evening inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center. The winner will advance to Sioux City, Iowa for the pool play which, will take place Nov. 28-30.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his eighth season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 166-105 (.613) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his ninth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 186-140 (.571) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Webber International are meeting on the volleyball court for the first time ever on Saturday evening.
Wrapping Up the WHAC Tournament: Lourdes fell behind Aquinas in every set on Nov. 8 in the quarterfinals before rallying to defeat the Saints 25-23, 19-25, 25-21, 25-22 inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Genessee Tate tallied a career-high 22 kills and hit .283 in the win. The Gray Wolves again rallied in the semifinals on Nov. 10 to defeat Madonna 13-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 15-11 after trailing 21-19 in the fourth set.
Tylar Roberson led Lourdes with 23 kills and 20 digs. In the championship on Nov. 11, the Gray Wolves took the opening set before falling to Cornerstone 16-25, 25-15, 25-11, 25-11. Roberson had a team-high 12 kills.
Scouting Webber International: The Warriors earned an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship after winning The Sun Conference tournament. Webber International defeated Saint Thomas (Fla.) 14-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-19 on the road and enter the NAIA National Championship having won six consecutive matches. Virginia Salanoa-Sagapolu leads the Warriors with 372 kills on the season while Brittany Taksas is hitting a team-leading .374. Carlee Baxter has handed out 1,082 assists and Emily Bowen has a team-high 39 service aces. Defensively, Michelle Calderon leads Webber International with 575 digs while Taksas has a team-high 70 blocks.
Lourdes In the NAIA National Championship: Lourdes is making its fourth appearance all-time in the NAIA National Championship, including their third straight trip. All-time, the Gray Wolves have posted a 3-5 record in tournament play, including a 1-1 mark in the Opening Round. Last year Lourdes received an Opening Round bye, advancing straight to pool play where the Gray Wolves went 1-2. Lourdes hosted Trinity Christian in a 2015 Opening Round match, sweeping the Trolls at Savage Arena. In 2013, Lourdes suffered a four-set loss at Georgetown (Ky.) in their first Opening Round appearance.
Lourdes Garners Numerous All-WHAC Honors: Lourdes had a total of 10 players receive accolades from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference as the postseason honors were announced.
Angelica Dippold was named First Team All-WHAC while
Emily Arnold and
Genessee Tate captured Second Team All-WHAC accolades. In addition,
Cierra Martinez and
Tylar Roberson were named to the WHAC All-Freshman Team.
Shannon Fischer was selected to the WHAC Champions of Character Team while Fischer and Tate joined
Evan Matheson,
Kristin Murrell,
Lauren Norman, and
Sarah Wisser on the WHAC All-Academic Team.
Dippold Ranks Second All-Time in Digs, Nearing 1,000 Digs: Angelica Dippold has moved into second place on Lourdes' career digs list with 980, passing Molly Shonk (2016-2017). The sophomore is just 20 digs shy of 1,000 for her career, but trails the school record holder, Michi Jimenez (2012-2015) by 1,163 digs for the top spot. Jimenez ended her four-year career with 2,143 career digs.
Tate Moves Into the Top-10: Genessee Tate has moved into the top-10 all-time at Lourdes with 469 career kills. She is 40 kills shy of Angie Pagan-Perez, who ranks ninth. Tate also ranks eighth all-time in attack percentage at .214 and is sixth with 107 career blocks.
Arnold Sets School Blocks Record: Emily Arnold has set the school's single season blocks record with 131 already in 2017, surpassing Ave Stout's 2016 mark of 106. Arnold had previously set a school single-match record for blocks with nine rejections against Siena Heights back on Oct. 11. In just one season, she ranks fourth on the Gray Wolves' career blocks list as well.
Moving Up the Single Season Charts: Emily Arnold currently ranks seventh on the single season attack percentage list, hitting .277.
Jami Markus' 764 assists are fifth most while
Angelica Dippold ranks third with 529 digs this year.
Cierra Martinez has cracked the top-10 with 69 blocks.
Among the Nation's Leaders: Emily Arnold is 18th among all NAIA players averaging 1.16 blocks per set and is also 21st with 131 total blocks on the year.
Angelica Dippold ranks 31st nationally tallying 5.29 digs per set. As a team, Lourdes is 25th in the country averaging 18.18 digs per set and 48th registering 11.74 assists per stanza.
This and That: Not one Gray Wolf has appeared in every set this season ... Lourdes is 19-2 all-time inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center ... the win against 16th-ranked Madonna was the program's 14th all-time against NAIA Top-25 opponents ...
Tylar Roberson's 23 kills at Madonna in the WHAC semis were the most by a Gray Wolf this season and one off the school's single season record.
