Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: After defeating Webber International on Nov. 18 in the Opening Round, Lourdes has advance to Pool Play in the 2017 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship. The Gray Wolves will play Northwestern (Iowa), College of Idaho, and Bellevue in Sioux City, Iowa Nov. 28-30.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his eighth season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 167-105 (.614) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his ninth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 187-140 (.572) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 1-0 all-time against Northwestern (Iowa), winning the only previous meeting against the Red Raiders in straight sets on Aug. 26, 2016. The meeting, which took place in Orange City, Iowa, was part of the Red Raider Classic. The Gray Wolves have never faced College of Idaho or Bellevue in women's volleyball.
Wrapping Up NAIA Opening Round: Lourdes dropped the opening set before rebounded over the next three sets to defeat Webber International 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-13 to advance to the pool play portion of the NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship.
Chelsea Lawrence tallied a match-high 12 kills while
Tylar Roberson added 11 kills and 26 digs.
Emily Arnold had 10 kills and eight blocks while
Jami Markus handed out 41 assists in the win.
Scouting Northwestern (Iowa): The Red Raiders earned an at large bid to the national tournament after falling in four sets to Dordt in the GPAC tournament. Anna Kiel leads Northwestern with 403 kills and is hitting .373 while Lacey Wacker has handed out 1,301 assists. Karsyn Winterfeld has registered 82 service aces while defensively, Lauryn Hilger has 325 digs and Josie Blankespoor has tallied 106 blocks.
Scouting College of Idaho: The Yotes earned an automatic bid to the championship after finishing runner-up in the CCC tournament, falling to Corban in five sets. Ashley Pagan has a team-high 289 kills while Marija Djonovic has handed out 1,219 assists. Taylor Alexander has registered 31 service aces. Defensively, Kilee Lopez has tallied 510 digs while Jackie Van Vliet has recorded 128 blocks.
Lourdes In the NAIA National Championship: Lourdes is making its fourth appearance all-time in the NAIA National Championship, including their third straight trip. All-time, the Gray Wolves have posted a 4-5 record in tournament play, including a 2-1 mark in the Opening Round after downing Webber International. Last year Lourdes received an Opening Round bye, advancing straight to pool play where the Gray Wolves went 1-2, defeating Morningside. In 2015, the Gray Wolves also posted a 1-2 pool play record, downing Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Lourdes Garners Numerous All-WHAC Honors: Lourdes had a total of 10 players receive accolades from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference as the postseason honors were announced.
Angelica Dippold was named First Team All-WHAC while
Emily Arnold and
Genessee Tate captured Second Team All-WHAC accolades. In addition,
Cierra Martinez and
Tylar Roberson were named to the WHAC All-Freshman Team.
Shannon Fischer was selected to the WHAC Champions of Character Team while Fischer and Tate joined
Evan Matheson,
Kristin Murrell,
Lauren Norman, and
Sarah Wisser on the WHAC All-Academic Team.
Dippold Ranks Second All-Time in Digs, Two Digs Shy of 1,000: Angelica Dippold has moved into second place on Lourdes' career digs list with 998, passing Molly Shonk (2016-2017). The sophomore is just two digs shy of 1,000 for her career, but trails the school record holder, Michi Jimenez (2012-2015) by 1,145 digs for the top spot. Jimenez ended her four-year career with 2,143 career digs.
Tate Moves Into the Top-10: Genessee Tate has moved into the top-10 all-time at Lourdes with 477 career kills. She is 32 kills shy of Angie Pagan-Perez, who ranks ninth. Tate also ranks eighth all-time in attack percentage at .209 and is sixth with 108 career blocks.
Arnold Sets School Blocks Record: Emily Arnold has set the school's single season blocks record with 139 already in 2017, surpassing Ave Stout's 2016 mark of 106. Arnold had previously set a school single-match record for blocks with nine rejections against Siena Heights back on Oct. 11. In just one season, she ranks third on the Gray Wolves' career blocks list as well.
Moving Up the Single Season Charts: Emily Arnold currently ranks seventh on the single season attack percentage list, hitting .283.
Jami Markus' 805 assists are fourth most while
Angelica Dippold ranks third with 547 digs this year.
Cierra Martinez has cracked the top-10 with 69 blocks.
Among the Nation's Leaders: Emily Arnold is 16th among all NAIA players averaging 1.19 blocks per set and is also 13th with 139 total blocks on the year.
Angelica Dippold ranks 31st nationally tallying 5.26 digs per set. As a team, Lourdes is 22nd in the country averaging 18.23 digs per set and 45th registering 11.78 assists per stanza.
This and That: Not one Gray Wolf has appeared in every set this season ... Lourdes is 14-29 all-time against NAIA top-25 programs.
