Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes University opens its third season of women's soccer on Saturday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain Taylor at Wildcat Stadium. The match is the first of 11 home contests for the Gray Wolves this season, and also the first of seven straight non-conference tilts to open the year.
On the Air: Saturday's match against Taylor will be broadcast on BCSN on Buckeye Cablesystem. The game will be shown on a tape-delay basis on BCSN at 4:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday. In addition, BCSN2 will show the match on Saturday night at 10 p.m. as well as on Monday at 2 a.m.
Head Coach Jackie Donovan: In her third season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Donovan has an 11-21-2 (.353) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Taylor holds a 2-0 series advantage against Lourdes dating back to Sept. 19, 2015. In the initial meeting, held at Wildcat Stadium, Taylor scored a 1-0 victory over the Gray Wolves in overtime. Last year, on Sept. 13, in Upland, Ind., the Trojans recorded a 2-0 triumph over Lourdes.
Wrapping Up 2016: Lourdes finished the 2016 season with an 3-12-1 record overall. The Gray Wolves finished in 10th place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with a 1-9 mark. Lourdes did not qualify for the WHAC tournament.
Scouting Taylor: The Trojans also open their season on Saturday with their trip to Lourdes. Taylor is coming off of a 14-2-1 record overall and a 7-1-1 mark in the Crossroads League, finishing second in their conference. The Trojans return their top two scorers from last season, as Nikki Zaino and Bailey Zehr each tallied seven goals while recording 18 and 17 points respectively. Taylor's top netminder from last year, Lauren Engelkes, also returns for 2017. She posted a 0.65 goals against average and an .863 save percentage in 2016.
Lourdes in Season Openers: Lourdes has yet to lose a season opener in its first two seasons, registering a 1-0-1 record. In 2015, the Gray Wolves notched a 0-0 draw at Rochester (Mich.) in the program's inaugural match. Last year, Lourdes scored a 1-0 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene to kick off the 2016 campaign.
Home Openers: Lourdes is 2-0 all-time in home openers at Wildcat Stadium. In addition to the season-opening win over Mount Vernon Nazarene at home to begin 2016, the Gray Wolves posted a 1-0 win over Andrews in 2015 in the first home match in program history.
Facing Ranked Opponents: Taylor is the sixth NAIA top-25 opponent the Gray Wolves have faced in the program's short history. Lourdes is still looking for its first result (win or draw) against a ranked foe while also looking for its first goal against a top-25 opponent.
Returning Scoring Leaders: Lourdes returns its top three scoring leaders from the 2016 for the upcoming season.Â
Clare Ciarlino found the back of the net six times, one shy of the school's single season record, while adding four assists for 16 total points. Both the assist and point totals set new Lourdes records.Â
Isabelle Karamuco and
Karlie O'Keefe each added three goals, recording seven and six points respectively.
Goalkeepers Return as Well: Kiley Transit started all 16 matches last season for the Gray Wolves as a rookie, sporting a 2.58 goals against average and a .726 save percentage. She recorded a solo shutout and was apart of two others as well.Â
Klarissa Wegner also returns after seeing action in two matches in 2015 while
Kerstyn Williams will also look for action in her rookie season.
Returning Experience: Helena Rammal enters 2017 having appeared in 32 matches during her Lourdes career, one shy of the school record.Â
Alyssa Swanson has seen action in 30 contests entering the year while
Isabelle Karamuco has 23 appearances in her first two seasons at Lourdes.
New Faces: Lourdes has six newcomers among the 23 players on this year's roster.Â

Welcome Back: Three players will return to the pitch in 2017 after missing the 2016 season due to injuries.Â

Captains Named: Remy Houttekier,
Tara Blundell, and
Kiley Transit will serve as the team's captains during the 2017 season. Houttekier is in her third season serving in the leadership role while Blundell is a team captain for the second time. Transit is a first time team captain.
This and That: Lourdes is 7-8-1 all-time in home matches at Wildcat Stadium ... the Gray Wolves are still looking for their first overtime win, posting a 0-4-2 mark when playing more than 90 minutes ... the Gray Wolves have recorded nine shutouts all-time in program history ... last year Lourdes set a new school mark, scoring 10 goals in a match against Andrews.
