Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: After dropping its home opener last weekend, Lourdes takes to the road for the first time this season, as the Gray Wolves play a pair of matches in Illinois. Lourdes will battle Trinity International on the road Friday afternoon before heading to Judson for a Saturday matinee.
Head Coach Jackie Donovan: In her third season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Donovan has an 11-22-2 (.343) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Trinity International will be meeting on the pitch for the first time on Friday. Likewise, Lourdes and Judson have never faced one another in soccer prior to this season.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes hung with 22nd-ranked Taylor for the first 50 minutes on Saturday evening, but the Trojans scored five times in a 26-minute span during the second half to defeat the Gray Wolves 6-0 at Wildcat Stadium. Nikki Zaino had two goals and an assist to lead Taylor as the Trojans held a 25-2 shot advantage.Â
Kiley Transit made six saves in goal for Lourdes.
Scouting Trinity International: The Trojans registered their second victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Campbellsville 2-0. Trinity International is playing its first eight matches of the season at home this year.  Jillian Kolster has scored a pair of goals and added an assist for Trinity International, and has the team scoring lead with five points. Heather Ortiz has added two assists. Becca Wells has played every minute in goal, and sports a 1.00 goals against average while recording a .889 save percentage.
Scouting Judson: The Eagles are still looking for their first victory of the year after suffering a 2-1 setback at Clarke on Tuesday afternoon. Adela Pelayo has scored Judson's lone goal this season while Jaqueline Sosa has the team's only assist. In goal, Morgan Olsen has played every minute, and carries a 1.50 goals against average and a .850 save percentage this year.
Lourdes in Road Openers: Lourdes is looking to win its road opener for the first time in program history when the Gray Wolves travel to Trinity International. The Gray Wolves enter the match 0-1-1 all-time in their season's first venture away from home, earning a scoreless draw at Rochester (Mich.) to begin the 2015 campaign before falling 3-2 at Bethel (Ind.) last year in their first road tilt of the season.
Looking for More Opportunities: Lourdes managed just two total shot attempts in the loss to Taylor on Saturday, only one of which was on goal. The Gray Wolves were outshot 25-2 for the night, including a 13-1 edge on frame.
Welcome Back: Fifth-year seniors
Remy Houttekier and
Tara Blundell both returned to the pitch for the first time since the 2015 season after suffering injuries last year that forced them to sit out the year as a redshirt. Blundell started for the 18th time in her career while Houttekier came off of the bench and recorded the only shot on goal for the Gray Wolves.
New Faces See Action: Lourdes had five players take to the field for the first time in their collegiate careers, including three in the starting lineup against Taylor.Â
Maria Schmidt,
Courtney Knoerl, and
Maddy Fleming were in the starting 11 for the Gray Wolves, with Knoerl recording one of the team's two shot attempts.Â
Hannah Martin and
Kerstyn Williams each saw time off of the bench, with Williams making one save in goal in 13 minutes of play.
Transit Surpasses 100 Career Saves: Kiley Transit entered the season as Lourdes University's career saves leader, and added to her total against Taylor. With six stops between the posts, the redshirt-sophomore surpassed 100 saves for her career, and now has 104 over her first 17 contests.
Heading Home: After this weekend, Lourdes will return home to Wildcat Stadium for four straight matches, marking the longest homestand in program history. The Gray Wolves have never played more than two back-to-back home contests throughout the first two seasons, although Lourdes was slated to play three in a row in 2015. One of those three matches to close the regular season became a forfeit against Marygrove though.
Captains Named: Remy Houttekier,
Tara Blundell, and
Kiley Transit will serve as the team's captains during the 2017 season. Houttekier is in her third season serving in the leadership role while Blundell is a team captain for the second time. Transit is a first time team captain.
This and That: Lourdes is 4-13-1 all-time in road matches over the team's first two seasons ... the Gray Wolves are still looking for their first overtime win, posting a 0-4-2 mark when playing more than 90 minutes ... the Gray Wolves have recorded nine shutouts all-time in program history ... last year Lourdes set a new school mark, scoring 10 goals in a match against Andrews.
