Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Unbeaten in its last two matches, Lourdes continues its homestand this week with a pair of non-conference contests at Wildcat Stadium. The Gray Wolves host Indiana East on Wednesday afternoon before entertaining Bethel (Ind.) in a Saturday matinee.
Head Coach Jackie Donovan: In her third season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Donovan has a 12-23-3 (.355) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Indiana East will be meeting on the pitch for the first time on Wednesday. Bethel (Ind.) holds a 1-0 series edge against the Gray Wolves. The Pilots won the only previous meeting last year on Sept. 7, a 3-2 decision in Mishawaka, Ind. Â
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes and Saint Xavier played 110 minutes on Saturday afternoon, but neither team found the back of the net and the match ended in a scoreless draw. The Gray Wolves outshot the Cougars 31-9 on the day, including 12-5 on goal, and held a 10-1 edge in corner kick opportunities, but could not score.Â
Kerstyn Williams made three saves and
Kiley Transit had two in the shutout.
Scouting Indiana East: The Red Wolves have won back-to-back matches after defeating Goshen 3-1 on the road Saturday afternoon. Dejhanna O'Bryant leads Indiana East with three goals and an assist for seven total points while Lauryn Scott and Bryanna Diceanu each have a pair of goals. Between the posts, Amanda Nicholson sports a 0.50 goals against average and has a .917 save percentage while Kirsten Winter has a 2.00 GAA and a .765 save mark. Indiana East is in their first season as a NAIA program.
Scouting Bethel (Ind.): The Pilots enter the week having dropped two straight matches following a 2-1 setback at Anderson on Saturday. Bethel hosts Rochester (Mich.) on Wednesday evening before visiting Lourdes. Ana Molina leads the Pilots with four goals and eight total points on the year while Grace Smithberger and Jessi Fry each have two goals. Rebecca Kanpol has six points on the year, including a team-leading four assists. In goal, Tessa Zimmerly sports a 2.64 goals against average and has posted a .605 save percentage.
A Scoreless Draw: The scoreless draw between Lourdes and Saint Xavier on Saturday afternoon was just the second 0-0 tie in Gray Wolf program history. The only other scoreless outcome came in the program's inaugural match at Rochester (Mich.) on Sept. 2, 2015.
Back-to-Back Clean Sheets: Lourdes registered its second straight shutout on Saturday when the Gray Wolves blanked Saint Xavier. Lourdes also held Judson off of the scoreboard on Sept., marking the third time in program history the Gray Wolves have registered two straight shutouts. Lourdes has now accomplished the feat once each season since the program began in 2015, and this marks the first time since the opening two matches last year against Mount Vernon Nazarene and Andrews (Aug. 30 and Sept. 2) that Lourdes has had two consecutive clean sheets.
Equalling the Single Match Record: Clare Ciarlino tied the Lourdes single match record for shots in a contest on Saturday against Saint Xavier. The sophomore tallied 11 shot attempts, four of which were on frame, equalling the mark set by
Jada Foster in the program's first match ever at Rochester (Mich.) on Sept. 2, 2015. Ciarlino leads the Gray Wolves with 16 total shots this season.
Sharing Time in Net: Kerstyn Williams has appeared in goal in all four contests for the Gray Wolves this year while
Kiley Transit has seen action in three of the four matches. Williams has yielded just two goals in more than 226 minutes of action, and sports a 0.80 goals against average along with a .920 save percentage. Transit has recorded a 3.51 GAA and a .647 save mark in more than 153 minutes of play.
A Record-Setting Homestand: Lourdes is in the midst of its longest homestand in program history. The Gray Wolves never played more than two back-to-back home contests throughout the first two seasons, although Lourdes was slated to play three in a row in 2015. One of those three matches to close the regular season became a forfeit against Marygrove though.
Lots of Different Lineups: Of the 18 Gray Wolves who have seen the field this season, 16 of them have made at least one start this year.Â
Remy Houttekier made her first start of the season against Saint Xavier.Â
Reagan Boice and
Lana Bell are the only Gray Wolves who have played this year that have yet to start, and Boice has appeared in all four matches while Bell has played in three.
Captains Named: Remy Houttekier,
Tara Blundell, and
Kiley Transit will serve as the team's captains during the 2017 season. Houttekier is in her third season serving in the leadership role while Blundell is a team captain for the second time. Transit is a first time team captain.
This and That: Lourdes is 7-9-2 all-time at Wildcat Stadium ... the Gray Wolves have never won an overtime match in program history (0-4-3) ... 10 different players had shot attempts against Saint Xavier after seven players total had registered shots over the first three matches ... Lourdes has surrendered just one first half goal this season.
