Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: After playing 10 of the last 11 matches away from home, Lourdes returns to the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center this week for a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests. The Gray Wolves will entertain Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday night before playing Lawrence Tech on Friday evening.
On the Air: Wednesday's match against Concordia (Mich.) will be broadcast live on BCSN on Buckeye Cablesystem. The match will also be replayed on Friday at 4:30 a.m. as well as at 3 p.m. In addition, BCSN2 will show the match on Thursday morning at 1 a.m., Friday at midnight at 5 p.m., and Sunday at 4:30 a.m.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his eighth season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 152-98 (.608) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his ninth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 172-133 (.564) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds an 11-1 series advantage all-time against Concordia (Mich.) dating back to Aug. 20, 2010. The Gray Wolves have won the last eight meetings between the two schools, including a pair of sweeps against the Cardinals in both 2015 and 2016. Lourdes is 13-0 all-time against Lawrence Tech in a series that dates back to Sept. 17, 2011. The Gray Wolves won the only meetings between the two schools last year in four sets, and have never been forced to a fifth set against the Blue Devils.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes opened WHAC play on Wednesday evening, falling in straight sets at Siena Heights 25-11, 25-18, 25-19.Â
Chelsea Lawrence recorded a team-high nine kills while
Angelica Dippold recorded 16 digs. The Gray Wolves bounced back on Saturday to down Bethel (Ind.) 25-20, 26-24, 25-18 on the road.Â
Genessee Tate had 11 kills while
Kristin Murrell totalled 12 digs for Lourdes.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals are still looking for their first victory of the season after falling in straight sets at home to Aquinas last Wednesday to open WHAC play. Alisha Anderson leads Concordia offensively with 92 kills and 16 service aces while Hailey McCourt has handed out a team-high 179 assists. Defensively, Denae Tolu has registered 155 digs while Rebecca McDonald and Madelyn Kragt each have been involved in 19 blocks.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils enter the week having won three straight matches after downing Windsor and Western Ontario last weekend. Lawrence Tech travels to Madonna on Wednesday before facing Lourdes. Varvara Gromakova leads Lawrence Tech with 125 kills while Zakia Hunt is hitting .335. Kristi Doherty has handed out 508 assists while recording a team-high 21 service aces. Defensively, Doherty also has a team-high 192 digs while Hunt has recorded 36 blocks.
A Balanced Offense: Lourdes has three players near the top of the team lead in kills this season.Â
Chelsea Lawrence has registered 92 kills this season, four more than
Genessee Tate and
Kristin Murrell. Tate is tops on the squad in hitting percentage at .270 while Murrell has tallied a team-high 289 attempts. Â
Moving Up the Career List: Angelica Dippold ranks seventh all-time at Lourdes with 576 career digs. The sophomore is just 17 digs shy of matching
Stephanie Ruffing for sixth on the school's career charts. Dippold is 251 digs shy of second place in school history.
Setting a Block: Emily Arnold and
Cierra Martinez are averaging nearly a block per set each this year. Arnold has 35 rejections in 38 sets while Martinez has blocked 32 shots in 37 sets. Â
Dividing Setting Duties: Lourdes has used three setters throughout the first part of the season, with all three having appeared in at least 24 of the team's 38 sets played to date.Â
Jami Markus leads the team in total assists with 136, and ranks 10th in program history for career assists.Â
Sarah Wisser has the highest assist average (4.92/set on 128 total helpers).Â
Evynn Eubanks surpassed the 100-assist mark last week, and enters this week with 115 as a freshman.
Home Sweet Home: Lourdes has yet to drop a match inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center. The Gray Wolves posted a perfect 11-0 record in home matches last season and won their opener this year. In fact, the Gray Wolves have lost just one set total at home in the building. Overall, Lourdes has won 28 consecutive home contests, last falling on its home floor against Northwestern Ohio in five sets on Nov. 1, 2014 at Tam-o-Shanter.
This and That: The win over Bethel (Ind.) on Saturday gave Lourdes a 152-98 (.608) all-time record through the program's first 250 matches ...
